The 1992 Los Angeles riots began after four white police officers were acquitted of assault charges in the beating of Rodney King, a black motorist. Over the course of six days, 53 people died and over 2,000 were injured as riots, arson, and looting broke out. Tensions between police and the black community as well as economic tensions between black and Korean communities contributed to the escalation of violence.
