Wire mesh screens made from high carbon spring steel wire are proposed as an alternative to mild steel plate screens for vibrators and hot mix plants. The steel wire screens have several advantages: [1] They allow more production as square openings provide a larger opening area than round openings. [2] The diagonal length of square openings requires the openings to be around 10% smaller. [3] The steel wire is stronger than mild steel plates and will last much longer. [4] Multiple layers of wire reinforce each other, increasing strength further. The wire mesh screens are also more economical despite their longer life.
