The winter traditions



         For all of us, winter is not only snow and cold weather, but also that of joy
occasioned by so many times and customs related to the celebration of Jesus'
birth.

         Holidays and folk customs are grouped around the winter solstice. (20
dec. - 7 Jan.)

         A well-known habit is "cuting the pig". The pig is cut for the Ignat, on
December 20. The animal is sacrificed on this day substitute the God who dies
and is reborn , with time, at the winter solstice.
That day we are preparing traditional dishes for Christmas: sausage, black
pudding, scrambled, pudding, bacon or ham. Same time we chop the meat for
sarmale and we cut the pulp for steak.
A well known is usually maching the          Christmas tree. The tree is
evergreen and symbolize life.




      The first signs of Christmas celebrations are groups of singers, which start
from house to house with a spacious shoulder bag, hosts wishing to happiness,
health and prosperity.
These carols are popular creations containing special messages (religious
or satire of hosts). Carol proclaiming the birth of the Lord, wish health and
happiness hosts, receiving for these wishes cake, cookies, pretzels, nuts, apples
and even coils prepared by the housewives before.

      Since the night of 23 to 24 December, from midnight until dawn on the
streets resounds the voice of small villages singers.




      Since Ignatius, there customary to walk with the goat, bear. These are
games with masks. Game "goat" (killing,crying, resurrection) has become a
ritual meant to bring fruitfulness the following year, growth in animals, harvest
success.




      Like the "goat" is the walk with the "bear" that follows fertilization and
soil and household cleaning.
"The star" is a carol wants to remember the star that announced the birth
of Jesus and ho guided the mags.




      New Year's Eve, groups of children go from house to house to wish,
bearing whips of the punch, Owl (musical instrument) bells. Sorcova is the
custom according to which the morning of Jan.first children, and adults, go and
symbolic throw beans, wheat and rice in the house and the people in the houses.
