Shipfitter/Q.A. Inspector
As a 1st
class shipfitter at NORSHIPCO, she was responsible for repair and new fabrication of
various ships structural components as well as tack welding. Performed various structural jobs
on naval vessels, tankers and cruise ships that included shell 05plating, overhead, deck, and
bulkhead longitudinals, bulkhead inserts, watertight door installations, hatches, and scuttles. This
work was performed in accordance with NAVSEA standard items and work specifications as
well as other MIL STDs and references.
As a QA Inspector at NORSHIPCO, she performed tests, tank inspections, and final close
inspections, certified critical coating inspections for critical coated areas such as ship’s hull and
various tanks. Inspections also included hydro inspections on piping and blue contact
inspections on valves. Ships worked on for the U.S. Navy included AOE, LHA, LPD, CCG,
DDG, FFG, BB, PC and LST.

4. As an apprentice shipfitter at NORSHIPCO, she received hands on training as well as academic
requirements for the position. Became Coast Guard certified for proficiency in tack welding and
also went to school for oxy/acetylene burning. Became familiar with most industrial hand and
power tools as well as overhead cranes. Became a certified forklift driver and self propelled man
lift operator. She was also responsible for layout and installation of various structural plates and
shapes as well as development of sketches to support the removal and installations. She was also
trained in tank safety and respirator safety requirements. She attended the Apprentice School
where she took courses in introduction to shipbuilding, calculations and formulas, naval
architecture, physics, chemistry, trigonometry, geometry, board drafting blueprint reading,
technical report writing and layout and development. She became proficient in the trade and
graduated from the Apprenticeship School as a 1st
class mechanic with journeyman’s license.
