Scientists have discovered over 350 new plant and animal species in southern Asia and the eastern Himalayas, including a "flying" frog that glides through the air using webbed feet. Researchers also found 242 new plants, reptiles, and amphibians as well as 14 new fish, 2 birds, and 2 mammals while surveying several countries in the region. One of the newly discovered species is the world's smallest deer, the leaf deer, which stands less than 3 feet tall. However, the habitats of these new species are threatened by logging, pollution, hunting, and global warming, so scientists are calling for stronger protections to help preserve the biodiversity of the Himalayas region.
