China is home to over 4,400 species of vertebrates including 500 species of animals. Some of the notable endangered species in China include the giant panda, golden haired monkey, brown eared pheasant, South China tiger, and Chinese alligator. Rapid urban expansion and pollution have caused widespread habitat loss and degradation of rivers, pushing many Chinese wildlife species to the brink of extinction.
