September 13 marks the Battle of Chapultepec in which a young group of Mexican military cadets between ages 14-18 fought bravely against an invading American army attacking the Castillo de Chapultepec military school. Six cadets are especially remembered for their heroism including one who is said to have wrapped himself in the Mexican flag before jumping to his death. September 16 marks Mexico's independence from Spain after priest Miguel Hidalgo rang the church bells on September 15, 1821 declaring independence, though it took another 11 years to be achieved. November 20 marks the start of the Mexican Revolution against dictator Porfirio Diaz who had ruled for 30 years, led by revolutionary figures like Francisco Madero, Emiliano
