Prescribed drugs for gout can reduce symptoms but do not cure the underlying cause. While drugs suppress uric acid levels and relieve pain/inflammation temporarily, they do not remove existing urate crystals from joints. To cure gout, the formation and deposition of urate crystals must be reversed by sufficiently reducing uric acid levels through alternative treatments like alkalizing diets and ionized water in order to dissolve and remove crystals from the body.
