WHAT IS MY ROLE AS THE TITLE I PARENT LIAISON?
At Our School:
I serve as the advocate for all parents and assist with navigating through the school to meet the
needs of your children. This includes but is not limited to :
1) Parent Access for grades
2) Teacher-parent conferences
3) PTSA and other programs and Clubs that assist with student achievement and success
I assist with strategies for homework completion, understanding teacher expectations and state
and national standards, and overall academic success of our students across the
curriculum in math, reading, science, social studies and technology.
In Our Community
I serve as the liaison between the community and the school and assist all parents with finding
resources to aide their children academically, socially and behaviorally. I serve to create
educational partnerships with local businesses, the local libraries, colleges and universities,
non-profit agencies and the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce.
In The Home
I educate all parents with strategies for use at home to assist our children with further learning
and understanding.

WHAT IS A TITLE I SCHOOL?
A Title I School Has Two Designation Status:
School wide and Targeted Assisted Schools.
Schoolwide addresses the entire school population and Targeted Assisted addresses
a specific sub-group of students/population at a given school.
Both statuses require the following:
 Required to provide supplemental educational resources such as additional
teachers in specific content areas as Writing, Science, Reading, and/or
Mathematics
 Required to provide supplemental academic assistance for students such as
Flexible Learning Programs
 Required to include parents in creating policies such as the School Improvement
Plan, the Parental Involvement Policy and our School-Parent Compacts
 Required to provide parental engagement activities that educate parents on our
curriculum, the GA standards in education, strategies for improving test scores
and increases in overall achievement on standardized assessments

At the local level, Title I supports our
economically, disadvantaged
students to help ensure that they
all meet challenging state
academic content and student
academic achievement standards. Title I also
serves to reinforce and amplify efforts to
improve teaching and learning for our
students furthest from meeting state
standards.
Title I is a federally funded
program under the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act of 1965
(ESEA) that provides funds through
the United States Department of
Education to the Georgia
Department of Education.

WHAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW FOR
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT?
Title I, Part A, Section 1118 (e) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965
requires that the six “shalls” stated in the law under Building Capacity for
Involvement are met as well as documented. The law also provides eight additional
“mays” (that are not required, but are allowable) to ensue meaningful capacity
building in parents. The six “shalls” stated in the law are:
SHALL provide assistance
SHALL provide materials and training
SHALL educate teachers…parents, in the value and utility of contributions of parents
SHALL, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parent
involvement programs and activities
SHALL ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and
other activities is sent
SHALL provide such other reasonable support for parental involvement activities under
this section as parents may request.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND TITLE I
Parental involvement is an integral part of Title I funding at our
school. Research has shown that when parents are ACTIVELY
involved in their child’s education, then academic and behavioral
success is evident in greater numbers than without.
“Parents with high involvement ratings, compared with those with
low or median ratings, tended to have children with higher grades
and scores. This finding held across all family income levels and
backgrounds,”
(Henderson & Mapp, 2002, pg. 31)
W H Y D O A L L P A R E N T S M A T T E R ? B Y : T O N J I E L . C L A R K
WHAT IS THE PARENT INVOLVEMENT PLAN?
Effective parent engagement is not a one-time program, but rather
an ongoing process that guides the practices, attitudes, beliefs
and interactions that support learning at home, at school,
after-school, or during the summer.
W H Y D O A L L P A R E N T S M A T T E R ? B Y : T O N J I E L . C L A R K
"There are many reasons for
developing school, family,
and community
partnerships," she writes.
"The main reason to
create such partnerships
is to help all youngsters
succeed in school and in
later life."
Our parental involvement policy is
developed with our parents,
administrators and other stake-
holders to guide students with
effective best practices,
programming ideas and
strategies to increase overall
student achievement in every
subject area.

WHAT IS A SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT?
At our school, students participating in the Title I, Part A Program,
and their families agree that a School-Parent Compact outlines how the
parents, the school staff, and the students will share the responsibility
for improved student academic achievement. Additionally, the compact
describes how our school and parents will build and develop a
partnership that will help students achieve the state’s high standards.
The compact was jointly developed by our school’s parents, the
Title I Parent Liaison, educators, community partners and other
stakeholders in the best interest of student academic achievement for a
given school year. Revisions are done collectively by all stakeholders
annually to best suit the academic needs of the students at our school.
