Here are 3 targets I will set to help me achieve a C or above in English:
1. Complete all homework assignments by the due date.
2. Ask the teacher questions whenever I don't understand a concept.
3. Study vocabulary words for 30 minutes each week.
I am aiming for a grade C. After school I hope to attend college and study to become a teacher.

This presentation provides an introduction to apprenticeships as an option into a career path.
This can be used by careers guidance teachers for young people in years 7 to 11.
Listen to employers and apprentices from organisations like IBM, Barclays, Padgett Plumbers and the Armed Forces talk about what apprenticeships mean for them.

When choosing a university, there are many other factors to take into account. Some of the questions that you may be asking yourself are about the reputation, location and extra-curricular activities ...
2. Doctor - £35,000-£141,000
Qualifications needed – GCSE all C and above, A levels in chemistry,
biology and English. You must then go to university and achieve a
first honours or upper second honours degree and you must take it
upon yourself to gain relevant experience.
Solicitor - £22,000-£81,000
Qualifications needed - GCSE all C and above, A levels in English,
Law C or above. A first honours or upper second honours degree,
relevant experience.
Plumber - £20,000 - £40,000
Qualifications needed – NVQs from college – you need GCSEs to get
to college, you need to be outgoing, confident and have a logical
mind to be accepted.
Or…
Waiter/waitress - £8,000 - £10,000
Retail Assistant - £13,000
Supermarket worker - £12,000
Average cost to live a month on a budget with no children (recession
taken into account) - £600 - £700
3. English helps you to…
• work independently – At university, the average
amount of contact time you will have a week is 15
hours. At the moment, you have 25 hours. The other
10 (and the rest!) hours you will be expected to work
on your own and conduct independent research.
• be creative – You will need to stand out if you want
to be chosen from a group of people.
• think critically – You will need to choose the best
option when you are working independently.
• communicate your ideas with confidence – if you
want people to listen to you, and take you on this is
vital.
4. NEET – Not in employment,
education or further training.
• Young people face a future of poor health and premature
death resulting from falling out of the education and
employment systems.
• The rising number of NEETs has an obvious impact on
the economy, especially during a recession. Research
shows that the average NEET will cost the taxpayer
£97,000 during their lifetime.
• However, what is less well known are the health
consequences. The evidence suggests, that this
vulnerable group of people are condemned to a life of ill-
health and, ultimately, early death.
• NEETs are more likely to be living unhealthy lifestyles.
That is to say, they are more likely to smoke, drink and
have poor diets. They also have more chance of getting
caught up in violent situations and having mental health
problems.
5. Media Studies
• Standard College entry requirements
including grade C or above in GCSE
English Language or Media Studies.
6. Drama
• Standard College entry requirements
including a grade C or above in GCSE
English Language as well as
• a grade C in English Literature or Drama if
taken. Course auditions are also an entry
requirement and take place in July.
7. Dance
• Standard College entry requirements
including GCSE English Language and
Literature grade C or above. Auditions and
interviews will be conducted prior to
acceptance.
8. Art
• Standard College entry requirements
including GCSE Art & Design grade C or
above and GCSE English grade C or
above. A portfolio of work completed.
9. Health and Social Care
• Standard College entry requirements
including grade C in English.
10. Applied Science
• Standard College entry requirements
including grade C in GCSE Science (Core
and Additional), Maths,
• and English Language.
11. Food Technology
• Standard College entry requirements
including GCSE Grade C in English
Language. Grade C in GCSE
• Food Technology and Science are
desirable.
13. Carpentry/Electrician/Plumber
• You don’t technically need great GCSEs to do an
apprenticeship. At least, you didn’t USED to need
them…
• Nowadays, because of the recession there are fewer
apprenticeships on offer, so anyone with at least C
grades in Maths, Science and English and who are able
to show a keenness at interview and commitment to
attend college and pass exams will get the jobs.
• You must also have a good reference written about you
which shows you are hard working and committed.
Could I write this about you?
14. What do you need to do?
Set yourself 3 targets that are going to help you
achieve your C or above in English. These can be
behaviour related, work related...they can be to do
with how much you participate in lessons…anything
that you think is going to help you aim high!
Write them on the piece of paper in front of you, along
with the grade you are aiming for and what you think
you want to do when you leave school and hand them
in. Make sure you put your name on the top!
