God said it was not good for Adam to be alone, so he caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and used one of Adam's ribs to create woman as a suitable helper. When Adam awoke and saw the woman, he recognized she was flesh of his flesh and bone of his bones. The two were united as one flesh and felt no shame.
1. Genesis 2:18-19
The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the
man to be alone. I will make a helper
suitable for him.’ Now the Lord God had
formed out of the ground all the beasts of
the field and all the birds of the air. He
brought them to the man to see what he
would name them; and whatever the man
called each living creature, that was its
name. www.networkbible.org
2. Genesis 2:20-21
So the man gave names to all the livestock,
the birds of the air and all the beasts of the
field. But for Adam no suitable helper was
found. So the Lord God cause the man to
fall into a deep sleep; and while he was
sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and
closed up the place with flesh.

3. Genesis 2:22-23
Then the Lord God made a woman from
the rib he had taken out of the man, and
He brought her to the man. The man said,
‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of
my flesh; she shall be called woman, for
she was taken out of man.’

4. Genesis 2:24-25
For this reason a man will leave his father
and mother and be united to his wife, and
they will become one flesh. The man and
his wife were both naked, and they felt no
shame.

5. Our goal is not to DRAW any
lines that God has not drawn,
nor to CROSS any lines that
He has drawn, but to walk in
ALIGNMENT with Him.
Both MALE and FEMALE are created in the
IMAGE of God.
What is the difference between ‘very good’
and ‘not good’? It isn’t Adam, but that
Adam is ALONE.
6. We cannot argue
hierarchy from who
came FIRST;
otherwise, the
animals would be in
charge.
‘Helper suitable’ provides an example of how
we can overlay BIASES over a text.
With only one exception… in the Pentateuch
GOD is the helper.
7. She was taken from
his side to PARTNER
with him as an equal.
What we have is an affirmation of EQUALITY
and DISTINCTIVENESS.
‘One flesh’ reflects MUTUAL submission
over a HIERARCHY of roles.
8. We are not called
to be VICTIMS of
sin but VICTORS in
Jesus.
Male and female are INVALUABLE partners
in the work and purposes of God.

My Next Step Today is to:
( ) Do the home life help (in bulletin)
( ) Examine where I may have drawn lines that
God did not draw.
( ) Evaluate if I have crossed lines God drew
( ) Meditate on what is said (and not said) in
Genesis 1-3
( ) Reflect on how men and women can be equal
yet different
