Who is in your Heart?
Say, [O Muhammad], "If your fathers, your
sons, your brothers, your wives, your
relatives, wealth which you have obtained,
commerce wherein you fear decline, and
dwellings with which you are pleased are
more beloved to you than Allah and His
Messenger and the striving in His cause,
then wait until Allah executes His
command. And Allah does not guide the
defiantly disobedient people.[9:24]
The Love of Dunya: Life
Know that the life of this world is play,
amusement and adornment and boasting to
one another and competition in increase of
wealth and children - like the example of a
rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases
the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned
yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris.
And in the Hereafter is severe punishment
and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And
what is the worldly life except the enjoyment
of delusion[57:20]
The Love of Dunya: Family & Wealth
And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that
Allah has with Him a great reward[8:28]
Your wealth and your children are but a trial,
and Allah has with Him a great
reward.[64:15]
The Love of Dunya: Desire
Beautified for people is the love of that
which they desire - of women and sons,
heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine
branded horses, and cattle and tilled land.
That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but
Allah has with Him the best return[3:14]
The Heart
The Prophet (saw) famously said:
Truly in the body there is a morsel
of flesh which, if it be whole, all the
body is whole and which, if it be
diseased, all of it is diseased. Truly it
is the heart
Messenger of Allah (saw) said,
“Allah does not look at your figures,
nor at your attire but He looks at
your hearts [and deeds].
A Dead Heart
Then your hearts became hardened after
that, being like stones or even harder. For
indeed, there are stones from which
rivers burst forth, and there are some of
them that split open and water comes
out, and there are some of them that fall
down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not
unaware of what you do.[2:74]
A Sick Heart
[That is] so He may make what
Satan throws in a trial for those
within whose hearts is disease and
those hard of heart. And indeed,
the wrongdoers are in extreme
dissension.[22:53]
A Sound Heart
The day on which neither
wealth nor sons will be of any
use, except for whoever brings
to Allah a sound heart. (26:88-
89)“
