The document discusses the importance of good companionship and avoiding bad companionship. It provides advice from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on choosing righteous friends who will help keep one mindful of Allah. Evil companions are warned against as they may lead one to disobey Allah and follow desires. The document also discusses maintaining proper relationships and companionship with non-Muslims, the opposite gender, and seeking the companionship of Allah's friends in Paradise.
Pradeep Bhanot - Friend, Philosopher Guide And The Brand By Arjun Jani
Who is your companion
1. It is He who created you from one soul and created
from it its mate that he might dwell in security with
her. And when he covers her, she carries a light
burden and continues therein. And when it
becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah , their Lord,
"If You should give us a good [child], we will surely
be among the grateful.[7:189]
Companionship
2. Good and Bad Companionship
The Prophet(saw) said, “Verily, the parable of good company and a
bad company is only that of a seller of musk and a blacksmith. The
seller of musk will give you some perfume, you will buy some, or
you will notice a good smell. As for the blacksmith, he will burn your
clothes or you will notice a bad smell.
And keep your soul content with those who call on their Lord
morning and evening, seeking His face, and let not your eyes pass
beyond them, seeking the pomp and glitter of this Life; nor obey
any whose heart We have permitted to neglect the remembrance
of Us, one who follows his own desires, whose case has gone
beyond all bounds [18:28]
3. Good and Bad Companionship
And it has already come down to you in the Book
that when you hear the verses of Allah [recited],
they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not
sit with them until they enter into another
conversation. Indeed, you would then be like
them. Indeed Allah will gather the hypocrites and
disbelievers in Hell all together [4:140]
And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse
concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they
enter into another conversion. And if Satan should cause you
to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the
wrongdoing people.[6:68]
4. What About Your Friends?
The Prophet(saw) said, “A
man is upon the religion of
his best friend, so let one of
you look at whom he
befriends.
5. The Best Companion
The Prophet (saw) said, “Shall I not tell you about the
best of you?” They said, “Of course.” The Prophet
said, “Those who, if they are seen, they remind you
of Allah. Shall I not tell you about the worst of you?”
They said, “Of course.” The Prophet said, “Those who
carry gossip and ruin relations between loves ones,
seeking misery for the innocent.
The Prophet(saw) said, “Allah Almighty said: My love
is a right upon those who befriend each other for
my sake. My love is a right upon those who defend
each other for my sake.”
O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with
those who are true.[At-Tawbah:119]
6. The Evil Companion
And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can
among them with your voice and assault them with
your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner
in their wealth and their children and promise
them." But Satan does not promise them except
delusion..[17:64]
Some other characteristics of an evil companion:
• In the same way that Shaytan left the Quraish when he saw what awaited them at
the battle of Badr, these companions leave their brothers/sisters in predicaments
whereby they lose their livelihood, liberty and, in some cases, their families! Each
to their own as they say!
• He follows his desires; “Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as
his ilah (deity) and Allah Knowing (him as such) left him astray and sealed his
hearing and his heart, and put a covering on his sight. Who will guide him after
Allah? Will you not then remember?” Surah Al Jathiyah (45:23)
7. The Evil Companion
Craving for wealth and status:
• Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep are not more harmful than
a person’s craving after wealth and status is to his deen.
• The Messenger of Allah(saw) said, “Whoever makes the world his
most important matter, Allah will confound his affairs and make
poverty appear before his eyes and he will not get anything from the
world but what has been decreed for him. Whoever makes the
Hereafter his most important matter, Allah will settle his affairs and
make him content in his heart and the world will come to him
although he does not want it.
• They think they are guided aright with deviated ideologies like
committing haram
• His / her heart is dead; “This heart doesn’t know its Lord and instead
focuses on its lusts and desires. Its whim is its imam – its lust is its guide
– its ignorance the driver – its crude impulse the vehicle!”
“And whosever turns away from the remembrance of the
Most Gracious, We appoint for him Shaytan to be a Qareen
(intimate companion) to him. And verily, they (the shayateen
[devils]) hinder them from the Path of Allah but they think
they are guided aright!” Surah Az-Zukhruf (43:36-37)
8. Responsibility of Companion
The Prophet (saw) said, Whoever
conceals the faults of his Muslim
brother, Allah will conceal his faults on
the Day of Resurrection. And whoever
exposes the faults of his Muslim brother,
Allah will expose his faults even by
revealing those he committed in (the
privacy of) his home.
Umar ibn Al-Khattab (ra) advising a man saying: Do not speak
about things that do not concern you. Stay away from your enemy
and watch out your friend except the trustworthy and the
trustworthy is the one who fears Allah and obeys Him. Do not
accompany the evil ones lest you may learn from their
dissoluteness. Do not tell them your secrets and do not consult
them about your affairs except those who fear Allah.
9. Companionship in Opposite Gender
The Messenger of Allah(saw) said: Whoever has faith
in Allah and the Last Day, let him not be alone with
an unrelated woman without her guardian. Verily,
the third of them is Satan
And when he came to the well of Madyan, he found there
a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found
aside from them two women driving back [their flocks]. He
said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not
water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our
father is an old man……
Then one of the two women came to him walking with
shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he
may reward you for having watered for us." So when he
came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear
not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people. [28:
23..25]
10. Companionship with Non-Muslim
Allah does not forbid you from those who
do not fight you because of religion and
do not expel you from your homes - from
being righteous toward them and acting
justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves
those who act justly[60:8]
11. Companionship with Non-Muslim
Let not believers take disbelievers as allies
rather than believers. And whoever [of you]
does that has nothing with Allah , except
when taking precaution against them in
prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself,
and to Allah is the [final] destination. [3:28]
12. Friend of Allah
The Messenger of Allah(saw) said, “Allah
said: Whoever shows hostility to a friend of
mine, I have declared war upon him. My
servant does not grow closer to me with
anything more beloved to me than the
duties I have imposed upon him. My servant
continues to grow closer to me with extra
good works until I love him. When I love
him, I am his hearing with which he hears,
his seeing with which he sees, his hand with
which he strikes, and his foot with which he
walks. Were he to ask something from me, I
would surely give it to him. Were he to ask
me for refuge, I would surely grant it to
him. I do not hesitate to do anything as I
hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for
he hates death and I hate to displease him
Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear
concerning them, nor will they grieve. Those who believed
and were fearing Allah [10:62-62]
Some Signs of a Wali (Friend of
Allah) Are you one of them?

the verses of Allah

14. Companion in Day of Judgement
And (remember) the Day when the
wrong-doer (oppressor, polytheist etc.)
will bite at his hand, he will say: ‘Oh!
Would that I had taken a path with the
Messenger. Ah! Woe to me! Would that I
had never taken so-and-so as a friend! He
indeed led me astray from the Reminder
(the Quran) after it had come to me….’
[Quran 25:27-29]
Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to
each other, except for the righteous.
[Quran 45:67]
15. Ultimate Rewards
Rabee‘ah ibn Ka‘b al-Aslami (ra), who said: I
used to stay overnight with the Messenger
of Allah (saw) and bring him water for
wudoo’ and whatever he needed. He said
to me: “Ask.” I said: I ask to be with you in
Paradise. He said: “Is there anything else?” I
said: That is all. He said: “Help me to do
that for you by prostrating a great deal
16. Dua for Love of Allah and
Companionship
The Messenger of Allah(saw) said, “David would
supplicate, saying: O Allah, I ask you for your love
and the love of those who love you and the deeds
that will bring me your love. O Allah, make your love
more beloved to me than myself and my family and
even cold water
O Allah, I ask you for Eman that is not Shaky, and
blessings that don’t end and the company of
Prophet(saw) in the highest of eternal Jannah.
18. Companion Rewards
Surely the people of Jannah when they
enter Jannah and they don’t find those
companions of theirs who were with them
upon good in this world, then verily they
will intercede for them in front of Allah
(swt) and they will say: “O Rabb we have
brothers who used to read salaah and fast
with us, we do not see them!”
Allaah (swt), will say “Go to the fire and
take out any person who had even an
atoms amount of Imaan in their heart
