Paul’s address to the philosophers in Athens provides us with a very basic, instructive lesson in understanding God. Paul makes it clear that God is the Almighty God, Our Father, and Judge. God expects all men to repent.
This document discusses identity and how it is defined by God, not by ourselves or Satan. It outlines four things God says about our identity: we are revelation receivers, humbly honored, made to mirror God, and blessed to be a blessing. Our identity is received from God, not achieved, and all people equally bear God's image. Satan tries to undermine our identity by questioning God and making us think we can be like God through disobedience. The document warns against identity idolatry, where we make other things our identity instead of God. It discusses how identity crises occur when our identity idols are threatened. Our ultimate identity is found in our relationship with Jesus.
This document discusses biblical identity and idolatry of identity. It provides passages from Genesis establishing that humans are created in God's image to receive revelation from Him and be blessed to bless others. Satan questions this identity by implying humans can be like God. Idolatry occurs when identity is based on things other than what God says, such as achievements, duties, or other people's opinions. Understanding true identity in Christ prevents living for other idols and the fear, lies, and death they bring.

1) Before creating the world, God loved believers and chose them to be holy and blameless in His eyes.
2) As believers united with Christ, they are blessed with every spiritual blessing and have received an inheritance from God according to His will.
3) Through the blood of Jesus, believers have been redeemed, forgiven of their sins, and given wisdom and understanding from God.
The document summarizes Psalm 19, noting that it marvels at God's glory seen in creation and in his word. It divides the Psalm into three sections: 1) verses 1-6 focus on God's glory declared by the heavens, 2) verses 7-11 describe the perfection and benefits of God's law, and 3) verse 12 recognizes humans' need for forgiveness and knowledge of self through prayer. The overall message is that studying both God's work of creation and word allows us to better understand his glory and our need for him.
The document discusses having faith in God and being faithful in both small and large tasks. It emphasizes that God cares for even the smallest details, so believers should speak truth, do kind deeds, and spread smiles each day. If believers faithfully serve God in this way, He will approve of them. The document also discusses approaching God through prayer, recognizing Him as our loving Father who listens attentively despite our sinfulness. It stresses the importance of character change and accepting Christ's righteousness in order to dwell with God in heaven.
This document contains excerpts from Psalm 57 that praise God and express faith in him during times of distress. The psalmist cries out to God for refuge and deliverance from enemies who pursue him. He finds shelter in God's protection and promises to praise God among the nations for his great love and faithfulness from heaven. The excerpts express themes of taking refuge in God, trusting in his power above all things during difficult times, and magnifying him through song.
The story is about a stone cutter who was dissatisfied with his life and position. He envied a merchant, then an official, then the sun, cloud, wind, and rock - wishing he could be each of them. Each time he became that entity, he still found no satisfaction and envied something more powerful. Finally, he became the rock, but then saw a stone cutter chipping away at him with a hammer. He realized the stone cutter was more powerful for having the ability to shape even the rock. The moral is to be content with who you are and what you have rather than constantly envying others.

The document discusses Jesus' divine nature and role in creation. It explains that Jesus was present at the beginning with God and all things were created through him. Though the world was made through Jesus, it did not recognize him. It then references Psalm 22, which describes an individual suffering great affliction yet maintaining faith that God will rescue them and they will praise God among the congregation.
God is our Keeper who cares for and protects us. He uses His Holy Spirit, Word, faith, grace, and intercession to sanctify and guide us, keeping us from harm. God's ultimate purpose in keeping us is to present us faultless before Him in glory.
This document discusses the concept of beauty from both physical and biblical perspectives. It explores how beauty is often defined based on outward appearances but the Bible shows beauty comes from within, through the condition of our hearts. While humans judge based on physical attributes, God looks at our inner spirit and sees attributes like love, mercy, and faithfulness as beautiful. The document encourages readers to see themselves as God sees them - focusing not on outward flaws but the inner gold of their character, and to accept God's forgiveness in order to walk in freedom as their true, beautiful selves.

God created the angels as the first spiritual beings. Angels are spiritual beings created by God to serve and worship Him. They were God's first creation and were made to carry out His will. The Bible references angels throughout and describes them as messengers and servants of God. There are also descriptions of different types of angels that make up the nine choirs or spheres in heaven.
The document provides commentary on Revelation 5, which describes John seeing a sealed scroll in God's hand. No one is found worthy to open it until one of the elders says the Lion of Judah has overcome and is worthy. John then sees a lamb that was slain take the scroll. It has seven horns and eyes representing God's power and vision. The lamb is revealed to be Jesus. All of heaven then worships the lamb for being worthy to open the scroll.

John receives a vision of heaven and God's throne room. He sees a door standing open in heaven and is called up to witness future events. In heaven, John sees God sitting on a throne surrounded by 24 elders and four living creatures. The living creatures represent aspects of Jesus' identity as lion, calf, man, and eagle. They praise God continually. John then sees a scroll in God's hand sealed with seven seals that only the Lamb, Jesus, is worthy to open through his sacrifice. Many angels, living creatures and elders sing praise to the Lamb for his redemption of mankind.
February is National Heart Awareness Month. It is meant to cause the nation to take note of the seriousness of heart disease and to be reminded about those things that promote heart health. It is wise in a spiritual sense to take time and do the same relative to our spiritual hearts. This is what this study is designed to do.
This document discusses passages from the Gospel of John chapter 3 that describe Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus, a Pharisee and ruler of the Jews. Jesus tells Nicodemus that one must be "born again" or "born from above" to see the kingdom of God, meaning to belong to God rather than just one's behavior. The document then examines what it means that God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, saying that through Jesus, God listens, understands, accepts people as they are, and transforms them.
The document discusses the concept of glory through various biblical passages and quotes. It begins with definitions of Yiddish and Seinfeld-related terms. The bulk of the document then focuses on quotes and summaries related to the glory of God/Jesus as seen at Jesus' birth, in his self-awareness, works, and sacrifice on the cross. It explores how God uses humble things to display his glory.

Many books claim to be from God? How can you decided if a book really is from God? Here are four starting points for helping you to understand that the Bible really is the Word of God.
This is the first of two lessons considering how we understand the figurative language in God’s Word. You will be reminded of a few rules about figurative language and how God orders things. The Passover Lamb and Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus are examined as examples of trying to properly understand God’s Word.
John wants us to take a moment and consider the kind of love that God has shown us in adopting us as sons. To do this we must understand the nature of our rebellion against Him, His character, and His plan to save us through His Son.
You will learn about the power of unity in this lesson based on the actions of the men of Babel. Unity has three parts: one people, one language, and one purpose. When we unite together to do God’s will as one people speaking the same language, there is great power for growth in Him.
Teaching the gospel to our neighbors must focus on Jesus Christ and him crucified. In this lesson you’ll learn an easy way to present the essence of the gospel.
The Israelite's victory at Jericho teaches us vital lessons that help us understand what is necessary for victory. Faith, obedience, endurance and humility are necessary so that God may exalt us in His time.
This document contains excerpts from the Bible discussing the sinfulness of presumption. Presumption involves trying to think for God rather than obeying His commands. It demeans God by elevating human thoughts above His. The Pharisees were guilty of presumption by adding to and taking away from God's word. Jesus strongly denounced them for rejecting God's commandments in favor of their own traditions. The consequences of presumption include being struck down, as with Nadab and Abihu, or being rejected by God, as with Saul. True obedience, like Noah constructing the ark, results in blessing. The document encourages self-reflection on whether one's actions honor or dishonor God.
Although Sarah was a physically beautiful woman, she is remembered in the New Testament for the beauty of her heart before God. This lesson reminds us that a beautiful wife is one who makes her marriage a priority; loves unselfishly; submits to her husband and respects her husband. (This lesson is adapted from Dennis Rainey, Building Your Marriage, p. 131-156).
Synopsis: John teaches us that an important part of being in fellowship with God is that we walk as He walked. To do this we must consider how he walked in the world and then be ready to imitate Him. Perhaps more importantly, this reminds us that truth is for doing.
Thoughts from this lesson from Martyn Lloyd-Jones in Studies in 1 John: Walking with God and Jim McGuiggan ( http://www.jimmcguiggan.com/weekly2.asp?id_message=58 )
In this lesson we will learn the tests given by John to determine whether someone is a false prophet. They are whether they confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, are they of the world or of God, and do they listen to the Apostles.
The document discusses motivation to talk about Jesus and salvation. It examines passages from the Bible that provide four motivations that Jesus had for speaking to others: 1) Compassion for those who were harassed and helpless; 2) His purpose was to preach the good news of the kingdom of God; 3) His love for the Father; 4) The joy that was set before him in enduring the cross. These four motivations - compassion, purpose, love of the Father, and joy - should also drive Christians to tell others about Jesus.
The document discusses the concept of peace from several biblical perspectives. It explores finding peace through a relationship with God reconciled by Jesus, having peace with brethren and living peaceably with all people. Several bible verses are presented that discuss peace being a fruit of the spirit, having peace with God through faith, pursuing peace with others, and Jesus offering peace in this world.
In this powerful incident, you will learn three common reasons why men choose to disobey God: rebellion, reward, and being deceived. The consequences are the same (death), so we must learn to respect God’s word and choose to obey it completely.
When we examine the establishment, examples and correction given concerning the Lord’s Supper we understand that our Lord Jesus desires that Christians must partake of the Lord’s supper together on the first day of the week.
The document discusses the origins and biblical basis of the concept of original sin. It examines several passages from Romans and Psalms that are commonly cited as supporting the idea that humans inherit sin from Adam. However, it argues that some of these passages may have been misinterpreted and taken out of context. The document ultimately questions the validity of original sin and ideas like the inheritance of sin or guilt from the actions of others.
In this lesson we discover the importance of following God’s plan to attain victory although in doing so we must overcome our fears and obey hard commands. But if we endure we will be more than conquerors.
God provided the cities of refuge so that those who had accidentally killed another could flee to a place of justice and mercy. In the Messiah, we all have this hope.. We can flee to Jesus for refuge from our sins, but this also requires that we remember that our congregation is to be a place of refuge for one another and also those who are lost in sin.
The Story of Genesis in the Chinese CharactersDave Stewart
The Chinese language is much older than when Moses wrote the book of Genesis. Interestingly, some of the traditional Chinese characters may indicate a clear knowledge of the same events as revealed by God to Moses, and we can draw the conclusion that the ancestors of the Chinese knew these stories and passed them on in their written language.
Paul’s message to the philosophers in Athens provides a very clear picture of the true God. He is our creator, lord, sustainer of life, ruler of nations, father, deity and judge. Facing judgment we are reminded of our need to repent.

This document discusses theology and ordination in the Philippine context. It covers several topics related to the doctrine of God (Theology Proper), including definitions of God, His names and attributes in the Old and New Testaments. Some of the main points covered include:
- God is defined as self-existent, self-conscious, personal, the creator of all things who transcends His creation but is immanent in it.
- Old Testament names and attributes of God discussed include Elohim, El-Shaddai, El-Elyon, El-Olam, El-Roi, and Yahweh.
- New Testament names/titles include Theos, Lord, and
All things came to be when "In the beginning, God created" everything in six days, with man and woman as the crown of His creation. God constantly watches over you and sends his angels to protect you. God causes all plants to grow and provides food for every living creature, demonstrating his ongoing care for his creation.
1. The document discusses the story of Job from the Bible, who endured great suffering and loss but did not curse God. It examines how Job maintained his faith and integrity despite his wife urging him to curse God.
2. It notes how the story shows that suffering is not necessarily a sign of God's punishment or lack of faith, and that God's ways are higher than humans can understand.
3. The document suggests that like Job, believers should face hardship with humility, trusting that God is sovereign over all things even if God's reasons remain unknown.
1. The document discusses the story of Job from the Bible, who endured great suffering and loss but did not curse God. It examines how Job maintained his faith and integrity despite his struggles.
2. Key points made include that Job accepted both good and bad as coming from God, and that he worshiped God in his suffering rather than blaming him.
3. The overall message is that Job's example can teach us humility in accepting things we cannot understand and trusting in God's sovereignty rather than accusing him.
This document provides an overview of themes and topics discussed in a Biblical Literature workshop, including:
- The relationship between wisdom, prayer, and trusting in God.
- The problem of evil and how God's goodness and omnipotence relate to natural and moral evil in the world.
- Differences between the Old Testament and New Testament pictures of God, with the Old Testament focusing on God's power and reliance on people, and the New Testament centered around Jesus as the self-revelation of God.
- The doctrine of the Trinity, describing God as a unity of three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) based on passages like John 1:1, and its implications for understanding God's nature
This document discusses some common distorted concepts people have of God that result from sin and broken relationships. It suggests that sin can lead us to see God as distant, uncaring, harsh or too busy, rather than as loving, merciful and involved. It argues we should see God as our loving Father based on what is known about his character from scripture and Jesus. Wrestling with past hurts and reconciling them with a good God is important for trusting him with our future. Ultimately overcoming death through Christ's resurrection shows God's desire to break the cycle of suffering.
This document contains a summary of a sermon given on Trinity Sunday. It discusses the concept of the Holy Trinity based on passages from Genesis chapter 1. It notes that God created humanity collectively in God's image, both male and female, and that together we image God. It emphasizes that we all carry God's image, we need each other, and we are all connected. The wisdom of the Trinity teaches that we are our sibling's keeper and injustice against any affects all. The closing prayer asks God, who is three in one, to send the Holy Spirit to break down barriers between people and bring justice and peace.
The document discusses the divine origin and absolute truthfulness of God's word. It notes that the Bible was written by humans under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, making it the very words of God. As God is truth, his word contained in the Bible is also entirely true. The process of God giving his word to Jesus, Jesus giving it to disciples, and the disciples writing it down resulted in Scripture that is completely reliable.
The document discusses the concept of God in the Old Testament faith of Israel. It explains that the Christian understanding of God stems from Israel's conception of God. For Israel, God was understood as the liberator of the Israelites from Egypt whose relationship with them was based on a covenant. Over time, Israel moved from polytheism to absolute monotheism, believing Yahweh was the only God. While transcendent, God was also seen as immanent through concepts like the Word and Spirit of God.

The document discusses different views of God's omniscience and how it relates to human free will. It presents the view that God knows all things past, present and future (omniscience), which seems to contradict free will. However, others argue that God exists outside of time so does not gain knowledge through experience like humans. An alternative view is that God is "everlasting" so time passes and God learns the future as it unfolds, allowing for free will. The document examines how God's omniscience is compatible with religious concepts of moral responsibility and judgment after death.
This document contains the order of service for a Catholic mass. It includes readings, songs of praise, prayers, and other elements of the typical mass liturgy. The document encourages silence in church, turning off phones, and includes passages from the Bible, creeds, responses from the congregation, and songs sung in celebration of God.
The document discusses guidance and discerning God's call through the story of Jesus walking on water. It provides commentary on key aspects of the story, noting that (1) faith asks God's will through prayer; (2) seeks God's will, not our own agenda; and (3) waits on God's answer rather than acting prematurely. It emphasizes that the goal of faith is coming to Christ, not miracles or personal fulfillment. The document also discusses how God has a plan for our lives and guides our decisions through circumstances and Scripture, helping us even when we cannot see beyond the next step. This is illustrated through a story about a man pushing against a large rock at God's command.
This is the second lesson in a series based on the Book of Hebrews chapter 6 verses 1 and 2, the elementary teachings of Christian faith.
The solid foundation is built upon the Rock. What (or who) is that Rock?
This document is a chapter from a book titled "Increase God's Way" by Jerry Savelle. The chapter discusses how the author was originally lied to by well-meaning Christians who told him things like God causes sickness and loves poverty. However, after studying the Bible himself, he discovered God's original intent was for people to live blessed lives with health, increase, and success. The chapter argues that financial increase should be expected by Christians as a covenant right, and encourages readers to declare war on any lack or poverty in their lives by standing on their rights in God.
Translating the Hebrew words Elohim (God) and Jehovah (LORD)Berend de Boer
Your English Bible will have three common words for God: LORD (all uppercase), Lord (lowercase), and God. Why is that?
This is an accessible introduction how English translations in general, and the Authorised King James Version in particular have translated the Hebrew words for God. Of all the metaphors for believers, the one most often used in the NT is “adelphos” (siblings, brothers and sisters). After Jesus’ ascension the company who gathered in the upper room consisted of both men and women, and Peter calls all of them brethren. In Acts 15, both Jewish believers and Gentile believers are called brethren.

The document discusses Jesus Christ's relationship to believers as their brother. It notes that Christ partook of flesh and blood to become like his brothers in every way so that he could be a merciful and faithful high priest to help those who are tempted. As the Son of God, Christ calls believers his brothers and sisters and shares in their humanity so that he can bring many sons and daughters to glory. The document encourages believers that as holy brothers and sisters of Christ, they share in his heavenly calling from God.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
