The level of significance was set at .05. The proportion of people who were treated with the shot who developed the flu = .16, and the proportion of the people who were treated with the nasal spray was .24. The calculated p value = .0008.

The proportion of people who were treated with the shot who developed the flu = .16, and the proportion of the people who were treated with the nasal spray was .24. The calculated p value = .0008.

This study aimed to determine early signs of subclinical nephrotoxicity in Egyptian workers exposed to silica in the pottery industry. 29 non-smoking male workers exposed to silica were compared to 35 non-exposed male administrative workers. Workers exposed to silica had significantly higher levels of urinary proteins, enzymes and KIM-1, indicating subclinical glomerular and tubular kidney effects. Among exposed workers, increases in urinary silicon levels and longer duration of exposure were positively correlated with higher urinary biomarkers, but not age. Prolonged occupational silica exposure may result in subclinical nephrotoxicity and increased risk of future kidney disease.
