Felix heard Paul reason about righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment from the scriptures and was afraid. Felix told Paul to leave for now and said he would call for him again when it was convenient, hoping Paul would bribe him for his release. However, after two years a new governor replaced Felix and left Paul in chains to please the Jews.

4. Acts 24:22 NKJV But when Felix heard these things, having
more accurate knowledge of the Way, he adjourned the
proceedings and said, "When Lysias the commander comes
down, I will make a decision on your case.”
Acts 24:24 NKJV And after some days, when Felix came with his
wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him
concerning the faith in Christ.
