their careers?

2. Over the coming decade, tens of millions of
workers will be displaced because of new
technologies.
And those in their 20’s today can expect to live
well in to their hundreds.
So what can new graduates do to improve their
chances of success in the workplace?
Here are 10 suggestions which I believe will help
them thrive in a world where the rate of change
will surpass anything seen in human history.
It’s based on a talk I gave to new recruits at
Nestle.

3. Bebrave andaskmore questions…,even when
you worry they'llsound stupid.
Inquisitivemindswillgofurther in the21st
century thanthe knowledgeableones you'll be
soon reporting into.
4. Regularly push your boundaries bydoingnew
thingsthatmakeyou feeluncomfortable.
You’lloftenfailbut you willlearn and grow
faster.
8. Stand out by thinking how you
can.
Most of your peers will look for
reasons why they cannot.
9. Don’t accept the status quo.
You’ll never live in a time where
things cannot be improved.
10. Don’t get emotionally attached to
your ideas.
Be dispassionate and concentrate
on developing empirical tests to
take better decisions on which
ones to progress and which to
discard.
11. Actively work towards building a
network with successful people.
Knowledge and skills are
important, but networks are what
will take you to the top.
12. Choose a career that aligns to a
purpose that emotionally resonates.
A strong purpose gives you the edge
to get up earlier, train harder, accept
and learn from failure, ignore
detractors and persevere.
