What is ‘the gospel’?
“In the four Gospels, or better, in the four
books of the one Gospel”
Augustine
Tractates on the Gospel according
to St. John 36.1
The Gospel is the good news of
the life, death and resurrection of
Jesus Christ.
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel
I preached to you, which you received, in which
you stand, and by which you are being saved, if
you hold fast to the word I preached to you…
For I delivered to you as of first importance what
I also received:
that Christ died for our sins in accordance with
the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was
raised on the third day in accordance with the
Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then
to the twelve.

2 Timothy 2: 8
God made you, loves you and has a wonderful plan for your
life (Gen. 1: 1, John 3:16, John 10: 10).
Humanity is tainted by sin and is therefore separated from
God. As a result, we cannot know God's wonderful plan for
our lives (Rom. 3:23, Rom. 6:23).
Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our sin. Through Jesus
Christ, we can have our sins forgiven and restore a right
relationship with God (John 1:1, 1 Tim. 2:5, Heb. 7:26, Rom.
3:21-26, 2 Cor. 5:21, 1 Cor. 15:20-22).
We must place our faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour in order to
receive the gift of salvation and know God's wonderful plan
for our lives (Mark 1:15, Acts 20:21, Rom. 10:9-10).
