Music videos have become increasingly important for promotion as they are frequently played on music channels. They help construct an artist's public image and style. Key features of music videos include a relationship between the lyrics and visuals, styles that represent different music genres, a focus on close-ups of the main artist, and sometimes voyeuristic treatment of men or women depending on the genre.

A music video is a short film illustrating a

or artistic purposes.

 Music videos are made for mainly , promotional and
entertainment services, in the past few years there has been
a big increase of views of music videos as more promotion
and ‘hypes’ are made towards it. This also increase the sales
in single sales as more people are shown the single on music
channels constantly. Music videos also play a big role when
constructing the artist ‘image’ for example, Chris Brown’s
music videos usually illustrate that he has money, girls and
drugs. This is a common code and convention for hip/hop
artists but also he shows to portray his self through his
personal social life in the same way.

4. Key features:
 When watching a music video there is a few things that we can
identify;
 There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals
 As you can see here , as the lyric states ‘ 0 1 to the 2 1 ‘ the
visual of the video also changes to fit the lyric whereas here we
are shown that the singer does hand gestures to fit the lyric.

5. Key features:
 Certain music genres may have their own style and
iconography;
 Both of these video are of the same genre and as we can see
both videos have a familiar kind of setting, effect, stereotypes
etc.

 The editing is mostly focused on the main artist/ vocalist. This
is shown by loads of close ups and shots.
 Here it shows both videos from different genres having most
shots throughout the video.

7. Key features:
 There is most likely to have voyeurism, usually to the treatment
of women. This can vary from different genres:
 This is two completely different genres. I have chosen one to
show the voyeurism of men to show that this could also be done
