Countless women today long to be nurtured. They want the love and acceptance of a
mother or a mother-substitute. They want to feel the warmth and security of an older

embodiment of these and other virtues that equip them to nurture younger women. But
they don’t know how to do it.
Spiritual Mothering 18

wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their
husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and
submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled

“Of all the ways Paul could have commanded the women to combat the decadence of
culture, he told them to invest their energies in training the younger women to live
Christianly in their society.”
