1) From the information given in the text, the reason for Sally and her family members\' illness
might be RAW Marinade served as a sauce on rice.
Raw marinade might contain E. Coli or Salmonella which came from raw chicken, as chicken is
cooked or grilled properly, bacteria from chicken were dead leaving behind some bacteria in
marinade.
2) This illness might be prevented by cooking marinade and converted into it cooked sauce or
gravy.
Process of cooking sauce might have killed all bacteria from chicken.
3) Both possibilities are there as both E. coli and Salmonella infection shows similar kind of
effects on Patients body as mentioned in text. But chances Salmonella infection are more as,
Salmonella infection starts within 12 to 48 Hours of bacteria exposure while E. Coli Infection
takes 3 to 4 days to show initial symptoms of infection.
