This document discusses the issues with outsourcing financial aid processes and how automation can provide a better solution. It outlines five key issues with outsourcing: the risk of exposing sensitive student information, the upfront work required to set up outsourcing, potential quality issues, lack of control over processes, and lack of student focus. Automation addresses these issues by providing secure software solutions that integrate easily, are under the control of the financial aid office, help standardize processes, and allow the school to focus on their students. The document advocates that schools should start automating their financial aid functions instead of outsourcing them.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Feeling lost in the digital marketing whirlwind of 2024? Technology is changing, consumer habits are evolving, and staying ahead of the curve feels like a never-ending pursuit. This e-book is your compass. Dive into actionable insights to handle the complexities of modern marketing. From hyper-personalization to the power of user-generated content, learn how to build long-term relationships with your audience and unlock the secrets to success in the ever-shifting digital landscape.
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
2. With legacy systems
Current or prospective students get
untargeted marketing all over the
place, such as getting spammy
marketing brochures from colleges
that they have declined.
However, they lack targeted support
relevant to the stage of the student
journey they are at, whether it is
searching, applying, enrolling or
studying.
With Education Cloud
Current or prospective students can
receive support that is relevant to
the stage they are at.
Alumni also have access to an
improved network of alumni where
they can give back and create
beneficial relationships with current
students by being mentors.
For Students
Salesforce Education Cloud improves your students’ well-being and experience with
your institutes significantly.
3. For Admission and Support Staff
Salesforce Education Cloud revolutionises the way your admission and support staff
collaborate and support students in need.
With legacy systems
Admission and support team can view
only a part of student information, which
is stored in multiple systems.
They cannot give advice or active help on
academic, career or financial because of
a lack of an understanding of who the
students are and what stages they are at.
They also have to spend a lot of time on
admin tasks, including entering and
updating student information or drawing
those data from various systems or asking
other departments.
With Education Cloud
Admission and support team can have a
single view of the students, including the
stages they are at, and all previous
interactions they have with your institute’s
staff members.
Education Cloud provides streamlined
admission or student support workflows
that allow staff to collaborate effectively
with each other.
They can actively identify students who
are having financial or academic
problems to step in early and provide
support.
4. Both your students and staff can save time and
prioritise their most important task, whether it is
studying or supporting students.
Besides, after having a positive experience with
your institute, your students are more likely to
be engaged and enrolled until the end of their
courses instead of dropping out. They are also
more likely to recommend your institutions.
Moreover, they can become your active alumni
or donors that give back precious connections,
knowledge and money to support your
institute.
In short, Salesforce Education
Cloud can boost your institute’s
revenue and reputation
significantly.
