How You can Fight with Cardiac Arrest - CPR & AED Awareness WeekEPIC Health
CPR and AED awareness week aims to educate the public about performing CPR and using AEDs during cardiac emergencies. CPR involves chest compressions and rescue breathing to manually pump the heart and provide oxygen to the brain until emergency services arrive. An AED analyzes heart rhythm and delivers shocks to restore a normal rhythm if needed. It is crucial that bystanders are trained in CPR and AED use, as the chances of survival after cardiac arrest decrease by 10% every minute without CPR.
This document contains an overview of a virtual training on sports first aid and emergencies conducted on July 4, 2021. It discusses the basics of sports first aid, including legal considerations, principles of first aid like preserving life and preventing deterioration, and the chain of survival. It also covers how to conduct an initial assessment, victim assessment sequence, CPR and recovery position, bleeding control, shock, burns, choking, fractures, heart attacks, wound dressing, and more. References are provided at the end.
CPR is a life-saving technique performed when someone's heart stops beating or they stop breathing. It involves chest compressions to manually pump the heart and deliver oxygen to vital organs until emergency services arrive. The steps of CPR are assessed using the DRAB method - check for Danger, get no Response, open the Airway, and check for no Breathing. If there is no breathing, chest compressions are performed by placing hands on the sternum and pushing hard and fast at a rate of 100-120 times per minute. After 30 compressions, 2 rescue breaths are given by tilting the head back and breathing into the mouth. CPR should continue until emergency services take over, signs of life return, or
The document discusses the importance of CPR education, noting that cardiac arrests often occur at home and many victims do not receive CPR. It states that bystander CPR can double survival rates but that typically only 15-30% of victims receive bystander CPR. The document proposes a CPR training kit for families and friends of at-risk patients to help more people receive CPR before emergency services arrive.
CPR is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to manually circulate blood and provide oxygen to vital organs until emergency medical personnel arrive. It should be performed on an unconscious adult victim by first calling for help, then kneeling beside the victim and placing your hands on their chest to push down firmly and quickly at a rate of 100 times per minute until help arrives. While trained personnel should perform full CPR including rescue breaths, untrained individuals should focus only on chest compressions as this can still significantly increase the victim's chances of survival.
This document provides information on performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults, children, and infants. It begins with an introduction and table of contents. The subsequent sections provide instructions on chest compressions, rescue breaths, using protective equipment like masks and shields, signs that CPR is needed, assessing an unresponsive victim, and performing CPR with an AED. It also covers choking for adults, children and infants. The document concludes with references to resuscitation guidelines.
This document provides an overview of a training course on CPR/AED for community rescuers. The training covers how to quickly recognize emergencies, perform CPR on adults and children, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). It emphasizes the importance of the "chain of survival" - activating emergency services, starting early CPR, early defibrillation if needed, advanced medical care, and post-cardiac arrest care. The document reviews the key steps in adult CPR, including compressions, airway, and breathing. It also discusses using barriers like face masks and shields to perform rescue breaths safely during CPR.

Here is a summary of Pneumothorax:
Pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung, is a condition that occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. This air buildup puts pressure on the lung, preventing it from expanding fully when you breathe. A pneumothorax can cause a complete or partial collapse of the lung.

Here is summary of hypertension -
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a serious medical condition that occurs when blood pressure in the body's arteries is consistently too high. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of blood vessels as the heart pumps it. Hypertension can increase the risk of heart disease, brain disease, kidney disease, and premature death.
The facial nerve, also known as cranial nerve VII, is one of the 12 cranial nerves originating from the brain. It's a mixed nerve, meaning it contains both sensory and motor fibres, and it plays a crucial role in controlling various facial muscles, as well as conveying sensory information from the taste buds on the anterior two-thirds of the tongue.

The Importance of Black Women Understanding the Chemicals in Their Personal C...bkling
Certain chemicals, such as phthalates and parabens, can disrupt the body's hormones and have significant effects on health. According to data, hormone-related health issues such as uterine fibroids, infertility, early puberty and more aggressive forms of breast and endometrial cancers disproportionately affect Black women. Our guest speaker, Jasmine A. McDonald, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University in New York City, discusses the scientific reasons why Black women should pay attention to specific chemicals in their personal care products, like hair care, and ways to minimize their exposure.

Services (KCEMS) as a Senior EMT Instructor
• During his tenure in the Fire Service, education has been a
priority and passion for him, he has achieved five degrees;
his most recent degree is a Masters of Science in Public
and Fire Administration.
5. Why should I fit
this class into my
busy schedule?
• Anyone can learn CPR!
• 70 percent of Americans feel helpless to
act during a cardiac emergency because
they do not know how to administer
CPR.
• According to AHA statistics home is
exactly where 88 percent of cardiac
arrests occur.
• The life you save with CPR is mostly
likely to be someone you know!
* Information provided by AHA
6. Why Learn
CPR?
• Cardiac arrests are more common than you
think, and they can happen to anyone at any
time.
• Nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital sudden
cardiac arrests occur annually.
• Many victims appear healthy with no known
heart disease or other risk factors.
• Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a
heart attack.
• Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when electrical
impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic,
which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating.
• A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to
a part of the heart muscle is blocked. A heart
attack may cause cardiac arrest.
*Information provided by AHA
7. Why Take
Action?
• Failure to act in a cardiac emergency can lead to
unnecessary deaths.
• Effective bystander CPR provided immediately
after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a
victim’s chance of survival.
• However, only 32 percent of cardiac arrest
victims get CPR from a bystander.
• Sadly, less than eight percent of people who
suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive.
• The American Heart Association trains more
than 12 million people in CPR annually, to equip
Americans with the skills they need to perform
bystander CPR.
* Information from AHA
