What it takes to feed a city well: How our work contributes to this aim — notably in matters of food safety and integrity including our project to raise Food Hygiene Ratings in the city; also in exploring city-level responses to food insecurity, notably emergency food aid and, finally, in considering climate change and its impact on both food security globally and locally, and regarding food safety.
Food insecurity — a city level response? Birmingham Food Council workshop on ...Kate Cooper
If the drivers for emergency food aid (food banks and the like) are here to stay, what city-level infrastructure changes can Birmingham put in place to ensure all our citizens eat well?
Slides for our workshop on 11th May 2015.
Integrating Marketing Session - Charlotte AMA Spring WorkshopJon Barlow
Social advertising, native advertising, content marketing, mobile, marketing automation, CRM, email marketing - today's world of marketing is filled with more opportunity than ever before. But with this opportunity comes the potential inertia of too much – too much to learn, too much data to measure, too many technologies to adopt, too many marketing tactics to integrate – too many decisions overall! Find out how to bring strategic structure to the chaos in a way that your peers and leadership can clearly understand and support. Learn how to develop a strong, integrated campaign that will help you justify your marketing budget - or get a budget - to your organization's executive leadership.

Perfect Food: The Silicon Valley Food MovementTrung Ho
What would the food system look like if we started over?
That's the question that investors, entrepreneurs, and food scientists in Silicon Valley are asking as they've been working towards creating a more sustainable food system as the global population inches closer to 9.6 billion by 2050. Mayonnaise without eggs? Real-tasting meat made from plants? Living a healthy life on a nutritious drink alone? Food from the Silicon Valley Food Movement may sound crazy, but they're becoming more and more popular as large groups of investors, chefs, environmental and animal activists, consumers, and just about all walks of life are gravitating towards the idea that food can and should be healthy, tasty, and help make a positive difference in the world's future.
This report looks at the different food startups and its corresponding trends/driving factors, as well as its implications for big food brands. This report also takes a look at related food trends and its manifestations that are occurring outside of Silicon Valley.
The 411 on Food Safety: How to Protect Your Family's Plate: A big part of being healthy is how we feed our bodies. How do you protect your family’s plate against chemical pesticides, food borne illness and other contaminants? How do you track product recalls? Who do you turn to for trustworthy advice on food safety? We’ll answer all those questions and much more!
Did you know…
o CDC estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases?
o Most produce travels an average of 1,500 miles and is touched by over 20 sets of hands?
o Contaminated food can carry bacteria and parasites that stays dormant in your body for years, affecting your body’s absorption of vital nutrients?
o Product recalls have more than doubled since 1999, are announced almost daily, which can affect your family’s health?
What has Changed since Upton Sinclair? A contemporary view of food safetyBill Marler
What’s behind the shiny abattoir walls of contemporary slaughterhouses? After all the regulation, safety protocols, worker initiatives, and animal rights action, we still have millions of pounds of beef recalled every year due to contamination with deadly pathogens like E. coli O157:H7 and its toxic cousins. Hundreds are sickened, many are permanently injured, and there are still deaths. Why can’t we get it right?
Food safety attorney Bill Marler will address the many challenges facing the meat industry and the consumers who eat their product. Climate, industry pressures and protocols, regulatory successes and failures, and consumer behavior all play a part. In addition to the discouraging list of what isn’t working in the system, he will present a list of proactive steps that can be taken to improve the safety of the American meat supply.
Designed for a course exploring Global Challenges, this slideshow seeks to inform other about the implications of the food we eat, promote awareness of environmental concerns, and offer advice on how to get involved in this issue.
