Join the Well City Kenosha effort!

Kenosha has the opportunity to help lead the way to wellness in Southeastern Wisconsin
and be named a Well City USA. Well City USA is a national Initiative of the Wellness Councils
of America (WELCOA). Its aim is to create a healthier American workforce by engaging entire
business communities in improving the health and wellbeing of their employees.
The Kenosha Community Healthcare Initiative has put at the forefront its efforts to promote
healthy lifestyles and reduce health care costs. They have taken the extra step in leading
Kenosha to be named a Well City USA. By supporting the Kenosha Well City initiative you
will help reduce the burden of health care costs for all corporations in our region.
Managing health care expenditures is a key business strategy. Enhancing the health and
well‐being of the workforce is the most critical part of that strategy. Not only will this help
decrease the cost of health care but it will improve the image of our community and help
efforts to increase recruitment and retention of top talent.
To become part of Kenosha’s Well City initiative your corporation should become a Well
Workplace. The Well Workplace Awards process is a national accreditation program for
worksite health promotion that assists employers to build and sustain results‐oriented
wellness programs. WELCOA provides the training and support to structure a wellness
program that complements your workplace setting.
Corporate wellness programs include offering health insurance to employees, offering
health screenings, encouraging annual physicals and well care, offering smoking cessation
assistance, encouraging walking and exercise, and implementing healthy policies and
procedures. These simple steps are the start of creating a healthy, vibrant workforce.
The American Heart Association estimates wellness programs have a
rate of return on investment of $3 to $15 per employee. That is a
huge reduction in costs over the long term!
