Effective communication is key to building strong relationships and resilient communities. When communication breaks down, relationships deteriorate like climbing a hill of sand. To develop strong communication skills, we must feel comfortable expressing our thoughts, feelings, and ideas in both our native language and English. Homes and schools play an important role in supporting students' language development by encouraging open communication, reading, and discussing ideas together. When each person builds diverse relationships through respectful communication, we can come together to solve common problems as a community.
