Welcome to Carpentry!
This Module is an exploratory course which leads you to Carpentry National
Certificate Level II ( NC II)1. It covers 5 common competencies that a Grade 7 / Grade 8
Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student like you ought to possess, namely:
1. prepare Construction Materials and Tools;
2. maintain Tools and Equipment;
3. peform Mensurations and Calculations;
4. interpret Drawings and Plans; and
5. practice Occupational Health and Safety Procedures.
These 5 common competencies are covered separately in 5 Lessons. As
shown below, each Lesson is directed to the attainment of one or two learning
outcomes.

• LO 1 - Identify materials and tools applicable to a specific construction job
• LO 2 - Request appropriate materials and tools
• LO 3 - Receive and inspect materials

• LO 2 - Evaluate hazards and risks.
• LO 3 - Control hazards and risks.
• LO 4 Maintain occupational health and safety awareness
