- 2. WHERE DO I GO? WHAT DO I DO?
- 3. First, Follow the Dress Code • Similar to what was expected in middle school • Posted in the GCHS Student Handbook on our website Graphic from Neuse Charter School and Google Images
- 4. Entering and Exiting the Building • All students who drive enter at “The Point” by the student parking log • Buses unload in front by the cafeteria doors • Morning: Parents may drop off in the front circle—LEFT LANE! • After school: Parents may pick up at any entrance except the front
- 5. School Supplies • Items needed daily: – Paper – Pencils/Pens – ID – ipad • Begin the year with paper, pencils, pens • ipads will be used for many assignments • Wait for teacher instructions before you purchase other items
- 6. ID’s • Photos will be taken when you pick up your schedule in the fall • The first ID and lanyard are free • $5 for each ID after that • MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES
- 7. Lockers • Issued when you get your schedule in the fall • All ninth grade lockers are located in the Freshman Academy • Having a locker is optional!
- 8. Schedule Odd/Even • Pick up your class schedule in the fall • 8 classes – 87 minutes in length • Even and Odd Days • 6 minutes for each passing period Mentoring • Between 6th and 8th or 5th and 7th periods • Will be listed as 9th period on your schedule. • 37 minutes every day • Freshman Success class takes place during this time
- 9. THE BIGGEST CHANGES… MORE FREEDOM, MORE RESPONSIBILITY
- 10. Cell Phones • Follow the district policy—see the GCHS Student Handbook online • No phone use during class! • Students may use their phones: – Before and after school – During lunch – During passing periods
- 11. iPads • Great educational tool, but you may also use them for photos, music, etc. • Fees for insurance—must be paid every year in order to take your ipad home; $30 last year • Mr. Wise is our ipad expert! • Cases and chargers are provided by the district. • Orientation: Freshmen will receive their ipads and training after the school year starts
- 12. Grades & Credits • Classes now count toward graduation, so you must PASS with at least 60 percent! • 26.5 credits required to graduate
- 13. Skyward • Great way for students and parents to check grades • Parents must get an access code in person • Parents: if you already have a code, it will stay the same next year • Students will get their codes in the fall • Please keep your information up to date on Skyward so that the Freshman Academy staff can communicate with you through your address, email or phone.
- 14. Attendance • Because of the odd/even day schedule, it is especially important that you are HERE every day! A lot happens in 87 minutes! • Call Freshman Academy office to excuse absences • Use your ipad to email teachers about make up work

- 17. Lunch • Freshman Academy eats during the first lunch shift • Account: online and window (no charging) • Meal Choices: Fruit case, sandwiches, pizza, regular hot lunch • Choose your own seating
- 18. Assemblies • Pep assemblies • Other events when the whole school comes together in the gym – Guest speakers – Faculty-student basketball game – Culture Club presentations
- 19. Activity Pass • May be purchased when you pay school fees • Enables student to get into home sports events for free
- 20. Get Involved! • Many clubs and sports here at GCHS • Sign up at the Activity Fair in the cafeteria • Listen and watch for announcements next fall • Purchase an activity pass to get into sports events for free
