The African-Spanish Women's Network for a Better World launched its Education Working Group in Nairobi last month. Over 1.5 days, 36 women from 18 African countries and Spain participated in working sessions and discussions on the theme of "Education for a Better World". The Network has previously established working groups focused on economic development, social and political empowerment, gender violence, and health. The Education Working Group drafted a roadmap to guide its future work promoting gender-aware education policies through advocacy, capacity building, and communication. The launch of the new working group strengthened cooperation between Spanish and African women's organizations working locally and at the policy levels.
"Speaking Out” - Advocacy Toolkit
The Speaking Out advocacy toolkit was adapted for use in the MENA region through a participatory process with 7 associations from the region. Two trainings of trainers were held in Morocco in 2011 and 2012 to build advocacy capacity among MSM and transgender organizations. Breakthrough advocacy initiatives were funded in Lebanon and Morocco. Participants identified a need to establish a regional MSM platform or network for the MENA region to facilitate continued information sharing and advocacy efforts. The Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality in Lebanon was selected to host and support the establishment of this MENA MSM advocacy platform.

Research provides needed evidence to advocate for strong laws and programs to combat gender-based violence. Yet research capacity is lagging in many parts of the world including Africa. In response, ICRW, the Gender-based Violence Prevention Network and the South African Medical Research Council undertook a capacity building program that paired NGOs with research institutions in the region. The CYCC Network held a Wisdom2Action event in Ottawa titled "Trauma to Resilience" to facilitate knowledge sharing between participants from various sectors working to support vulnerable youth. The event used participatory methods like world cafe and open space discussions to explore key issues around sexual violence such as lack of education, stigma, and system barriers. Participants shared ideas on how to better prevent violence and promote resilience, including trauma-informed practices, youth empowerment, and improving access to supportive resources and education across systems and communities. The discussions highlighted both challenges and promising approaches for moving young people from trauma to resilience.

Our program sites are in six countries and 10 cities, where for almost two decades we have supported more than 300 community partner organizations and trained more than 3,000 volunteers. Our community development efforts have maintained an ongoing project sustainability rate of nearly 80 percent, addressing health, social, environmental, and economic issues by responding to community priorities and offering training, grants, and volunteer support to our community partners.
Annually we support more than 200 projects and invest more than $800,000 in our partner communities, and our work directly impacts the lives of (on average) 150,000 people around the world. From a women’s beekeeping business in Kenya to nutritional education for mothers in Nicaragua and cook stove projects in India, FSD listens to community priorities and supports local leaders to achieve their vision for a better future.

Research provides needed evidence to advocate for strong laws and programs to combat gender-based violence. Yet research capacity is lagging in many parts of the world including Africa. In response, ICRW, the Gender-based Violence Prevention Network and the South African Medical Research Council undertook a capacity building program that paired NGOs with research institutions in the region. Our experience shows that partnering violence prevention organizations with researchers has strengthened the formers’ skills to carry out relevant action research, and directed evidence into the hands of those best positioned to use it, namely activists and program implementers.Annual Report 2016 PCO Media

The CYCC Network held a Wisdom2Action event in Ottawa titled "Trauma to Resilience" to facilitate knowledge sharing between participants from various sectors working to support vulnerable youth. The event used participatory methods like world cafe and open space discussions to explore key issues around sexual violence such as lack of education, stigma, and system barriers. Participants shared ideas on how to better prevent violence and promote resilience, including trauma-informed practices, youth empowerment, and improving access to supportive resources and education across systems and communities. The discussions highlighted both challenges and promising approaches for moving young people from trauma to resilience.

Our program sites are in six countries and 10 cities, where for almost two decades we have supported more than 300 community partner organizations and trained more than 3,000 volunteers. Our community development efforts have maintained an ongoing project sustainability rate of nearly 80 percent, addressing health, social, environmental, and economic issues by responding to community priorities and offering training, grants, and volunteer support to our community partners.
Annually we support more than 200 projects and invest more than $800,000 in our partner communities, and our work directly impacts the lives of (on average) 150,000 people around the world. From a women’s beekeeping business in Kenya to nutritional education for mothers in Nicaragua and cook stove projects in India, FSD listens to community priorities and supports local leaders to achieve their vision for a better future.

The winners of the competition where Katoma Secondary School. The eventual winners of the competition Schools take pride Eng. Musisi, the guest of honour, awarded the two schools that outshined the rest in the competitions. The best school and best actress both received a plaque and certificates of recognition while the best performers received cash from the honourable minister for health.
