Andrea struggled with self-confidence in high school and was bullied by classmates who valued superficial things over education. This led Andrea to keep opinions to herself and find an online community on Tumblr. After realizing she could inspire others by sharing her story, Andrea was motivated to pursue media communications by Shane Koyczan's inspirational YouTube video. Andrea believes this field allows limitless storytelling to make a difference and help people, which led her to enroll in Full Sail University's media communications program.

Naturally, children are extremely perceptive and intuitive creatures. Unbeknownst to many parents, children are highly in tuned with their familial environment and their personal surroundings. They are observing every verbal and nonverbal communication that we are uttering. They are aware of our faults, our limitations, and our weaknesses. They are equally aware of our strengths, resiliency and our personal fortitude.
For this assignment, I interviewed a friend of mine who grew up in a family who does not speak English as their first language. Her parents are both immigrants from Mexico, and I was able to learn about the ways that her background is different from mine.

Most of us passively accept these situations while feeling like we lose respect for ourselves. Until sometimes we reach the limit and explode with anger, which has far worse consequences.

2. Before I started the MCBS program at
Full Sail University, about a week
before I was just graduating high
school.
3. To be honest, I really didn’t have a good high school
experience. I struggled a lot with self-confidence and
self-love which led me to develop certain insecurities
that made me pass on various opportunities.
4. I knew that I had always loved
storytelling, reviewing certain news
and trending topics, or simply stating
my opinion out there.
5. However, there came a point in my
life in which I felt I couldn’t do this
anymore: Sophomore year, the
hardest of them all.
7. I came across many kids who valued price
tags more than real friendship and
education. They put parties, alcohol, drugs,
and high heels before anything else. I wasn’t
really part of that group, therefore my opinion
for everyone else was slightly irrelevant.
8. I realized that the only thing I could do is
keep things to myself, or post them in a
platform which it would be harder for them to
find. This is when I found out about Tumblr.
9. I started blogging about my daily life,
giving out advices, and as creepy as it
sounds, making friends around the
world.
10. Until I realized, if I kept hiding, I’m
never going to change the world.
I knew that there were kids
somewhere in the same position,
and all they need is encouraging
words to keep going forward and
take a stand for themselves.
11. Because of this
realization, I
came across
Shane
Koyczan’s
YouTube video.
The visuals, the
words, the
rhymes, the
tone, and
probably
everything in
this video made
me realize how
powerful words
can be if used
correctly.
This video opened my eyes. It
spoke to me and inspired me to
keep going forward.
12. This is when I realized
that this video
portrayed everything I
wanted to live for. Hope
and happiness through
storytelling. I wanted to
send out smiles, but
God, I also wanted to
save lives. I still want to.
13. Whether it is through a video, or through a little
slogan in a product, I just want other people to
find that one message in that one point of their
lives that might just make their day, or probably
unconsciously save their life.
14. I believe we could all
become heroes, if we choose
to use our tools correctly.
15. This is what drove me to look for the perfect
career: Media Communications. It literally has
no boundaries at all; storytelling becomes much
easier when limits and barriers are no longer a
problem.
16. Finally, I found Full Sail University and this program in it. I
fell in love with the innovative tutelage and the amazing
campus which keeps me motivated each day. I finally
found the place in which I will become a hero. Did you?
