Building and Establishing
Harmonized Relationship
with the Family
Lesson 1:
Family Systems and
Structures
Objectives:
1. appraise one’s family structure and
the type of care he/she gives and
receives, which may help in
understanding himself/herself better;
2. make a genogram and trace
certain physical, personality, or
behavioral attributes through
generations; and
3. prepare a plan on how to make
the family members firmer and
gentler with each other.
Nowadays, your family situation is very
different from the family situation a few
decades ago. Others have the mothers
work away from home; some others are
composed of family members from
previous marriages and some have
homosexual parents. How do you think
these family situations affect your personal
development?
Previous school lessons related to family
almost always ask you to bring a family
picture. Think about one of your favorite
family pictures. Describe the picture and
write on a piece of paper the things that
made it your favorite.
Motivation
Reflect on how valuable your
family members are to you. What
are the traits your family member
has that you would like to share to
your own family in the future?
