About
This signals the start of all the wedding festivities, it’s a small ceremony done independently
where Lord Ganesh (the elephant God) is invited to be present to remove all obstacles and
provide the newlyweds with happiness and prosperity. This is followed by the Pithi Ceremony
which is a significant prewedding
ritual. Family and friends are invited to apply a turmeric paste,
‘Haldi’ to the bride or groom to enhance their complexion and give glow to the skin. It also holds a
spiritual significance of blessing, cleansing and purifying in preparation for a life together. During

Hindu Wedding
About
Traditionally, this is the day the Groom’s Jaan will arrive at the Bride's House where they will be
received by the Brides family and friends. The jaan procession is one of the most funfilled
traditions of the entire wedding ceremony. The sprucedup
Groom is obviously the centre of
attention but
to spice it up even more, we want to get the Groom on either 1) a Horse 2) a
Camel 3) Other. Your votes on this please!
Once the singing and dancing of the groom and his family reaches the wedding venue, the
brides family welcome with the Groom and escorts him to the Mandap where the ceremony will
take place. As the groom patiently waits for the arrival of the bride, and all guests are seated, the
ceremony starts with prayers to bless this occasion and make the marriage ceremony an
auspicious day.
The Bride, when ready will be escorted by her maternal uncles to the Mandap in a Palki. There
the Bride and Groom will meet and the priest will continue with a compilation of various rituals,
performed by the bride/groom, parents and close relatives.
This completes their wedding rituals. More details soon!
