Designing usable websites becomes a subject of major importance with the growth of e-commerce applications and the wide range of offers the web suggests. To reach potential customers and maintain their loyalty under the conditions of high competition, organizations need to constantly control usability of the websites representing them. In this paper we present a systematic approach to usability, based on a roadmap, that aims to overcome quality gaps appearing in website lifecycle. To address these gaps it is possible to adopt different techniques. Our solution consists in identifying the quality gaps and suggesting the techniques most adequate to overcome a given gap. The result is a multi-step process for determining and realizing the improvements and re-engineering of the website. We illustrate our approach on the website of a tourist destination.
Usability Assessment of a Context-Aware and Personality-Based Mobile Recommen...Matthias Braunhofer
In this paper we present STS (South Tyrol Suggests), a context-aware mobile recommender system for places of interest (POIs) that integrates some innovative components, including: a personality questionnaire, i.e., a brief and entertaining questionnaire used by the system to learn users’ personality; an active learning module that acquires ratings-in-context for POIs that users are likely to have experienced; and a matrix factorization based recommendation module that leverages the personality information and several contextual factors in order to generate more relevant recommendations.
Adopting a system oriented perspective, we describe the assessment of the combination of the implemented components. We focus on usability aspects and report the end-user assessment of STS. It was obtained from a controlled live user study as well as from the log data produced by a larger sample of users that have freely downloaded and tried STS through Google Play Store. The result of the assessment showed that the overall usability of the system falls between “good” and “excellent”, it helped us to identify potential problems and it provided valuable indications for future system improvement.
Implementing Web Applications as Social Machines Composition: a Case StudyKellyton Brito
With the evolution of the web and the concepts of web 3.0 as known as programmable web, several issues need to be studied in order to develop, deploy and use this new kind of application in a more effective way, such as communication between systems, unstructured data and non-scalable protocols, among others issues. In this regard, a new concept – named Social Machines – emerged to describe web based information systems that interact for a common purpose. In order to apply and validate in practice this new model, in this paper we describe a case study which implements a web application that is a composition of several public and well-known services from different application domains, such as Wikipedia, Flickr, Twitter, Google Places and Google Maps, following the Social Machines’ model. In the end, we present the results and some improvement suggestions for the model.

This document discusses the development of a mobile learning diary application for a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platform called iMooX. The goal was to create Android and iOS apps to help students keep track of courses, events, and learning progress. A prototype app was designed and then working apps were developed for both platforms. The apps were tested through surveys, with most students reporting that the app helped increase their learning progress and keep organized. While the apps showed promise, limitations around offline usage, gamification, and login functionality need further work. Overall, the project demonstrated how a mobile learning diary app can support students on a MOOC platform.

Creativity and creativity techniques are relevant for requirements elicitation. There are many different creativity techniques, but these techniques are not used as widely as expected. To investigate the reasons for this situation, we assumed the viewpoint of a requirements engineer looking for decision-making guidelines to facilitate the choice among the considerable number of available creativity techniques. The results of the search highlighted the gap between existing information and what is needed. To this end, we propose a logical framework based on two matrices for choosing creativity techniques and methods in view of their application in requirements elicitation.

Accountability of Artificial IntelligenceLuisa Mich
Recent advances in artificial intelligence raise a number of concerns. Among the challenges to be addressed by researchers, accountability of artificial intelligence solutions is one of the most critical. This paper focuses on artificial intelligence applications using natural language to investigate if the core semantics defined for a large-scale natural language processing system could assist in addressing accountability issues. Core semantics aims to obtain a full interpretation of the content of natural language texts, representing both implicit and explicit knowledge, using only ‘subj-action-(obj)’ structures and causal, temporal, spatial and personal-world links. The first part of the paper offers a summary of the difficulties to be addressed and of the reasons why representing the meaning of a natural language text is relevant for artificial intelligence accountability. In the second part, a-proof-of-concept for the application of such a knowledge representation to support accountability, and a detailed example of the analysis obtained with a prototype system named CoreSystem is illustrated. While only preliminary, these results give some new insights and indicate that the provided knowledge representation can be used to support accountability, looking inside the box.
The document discusses artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications for customer experience (CX). It provides an overview of different AI technologies and categorizes them using the AI Knowledge Map. This map classifies AI technologies according to their paradigm (symbolic, statistical, subsymbolic) and problem domain (reasoning, knowledge, etc.). The document recommends using this map to identify suitable AI technologies based on the type of input needed and problem to be solved. It also notes challenges for AI adoption such as trust, security, privacy and the need for explainability.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is fascinating a discipline and research field. It dates back to the beginning of the second half of the last century and was developed with a view to creating intelligent agents mimicking human intelligence. The initial enthusiasm soon partially faded, given the under-evaluated difficulties in dealing with intelligent behaviours and tasks. The complexity of the problems at hand have suggested different approaches, related to two complementary visions, namely the weak and the strong AIs, which both provided insights into the nature of the intelligence and the design and implementation of intelligent systems. In recent years, results in the many sub fields of artificial intelligence have taken to a widespread availability and dissemination of intelligent technologies. In this context, a preliminary analysis of the AI applications for the tourism sector is proposed.
This document summarizes a study on the mobile web strategies of 13 major Italian opera houses. The study analyzed the mobile-friendliness and usability of the opera houses' websites, as well as their e-commerce models for ticket sales. It found that only 10 of the 13 websites were mobile-friendly, and many had usability issues when viewed on mobile. Most opera houses outsourced their ticket sales to third-party platforms. The study concluded the opera houses have not fully embraced mobile strategies and its findings could help them improve their mobile web presence to better promote opera as a cultural tourism attraction.

3. The 2QCV3Q model facilitates communication between stakeholders, helps identify potential conflicts, and allows for synthesizing gathered information across the seven evaluative dimensions. The model conceptualizes quality as dynamic and iterative
Tourist destination players information requirements enter 2001Luisa Mich
The project to apply ICT to support the decision making process of players in a tourist destination presupposes knowledge of the existing relationships and exchanges of information among them. Analysis of information flows must be based on a representation of the complexity of the co-ordination problem, because corresponding to different levels of complexity are different applications of ICT. To this end, the paper presents a method for classifying the relationships among the players of a tourist destination. This method moves through three main phases: identification of the players involved in the development process in the destination, analysis of existing communication flow among the main players (context diagrams construction). definition of the potential application of ICT in support to the co.ordination.

This presentation provides a model to classify and analyze the different forms of presence on the Web for a company or an organization. In fact, beside the official websites, there are a variety of new ‘spaces’ related to the so called Web 2.0 which can be included by managers in the company’s strategy for a comprehensive Web presence. The suggested model is meant to analyze the characteristics of the different forms of Web presence and support an organization or company in decision-making about their adoption. The Web 2.0 presence model and its application are illustrated for a set of tourism destination management organizations of the European countries. Interesting results emerge from the study, both in terms of existing Web presence strategies and in terms of guidelines and recommendations for improving Web presence in general.

Teaching requirements analysis REET 2014 at RE2014Luisa Mich
Teaching requirements analysis to computer science and information system students raises a number of challenges. One of the most critical is the gap between skills needed to deal with software requirements and those necessary to grasp the business problems. To bridge that gap in teaching requirements analysis students would have to carry out an assignment of analyzing requirements for a non-trivial, term-sized project. Here we analyze the gap and propose a framework for student projects which integrates a model of the computer based system as a solution to business challenges into a template for a business requirements document. The first model comes from information systems literature and the second from an object oriented analysis approach for business analysis. A CASE (computer aided software engineering) tool to support UML (unified modeling language) modeling is also used and we give some guidelines to reduce risks of premature requirements modeling due to students’ tendency to start modeling, even if business analysis and requirements elicitation have just started. The proposed framework has been defined in many years of teaching and allowed to overcome some of the limitations of a traditional UML-focused course. Student projects of different academic terms – in different courses and different degrees – showed improved requirements models and better comprehension of the role of requirements in the later terms. Moreover, the students appeared to have greater interest and motivation towards this area of software engineering.

Webinar: Designing a schema for a Data WarehouseFederico Razzoli
Are you new to data warehouses (DWH)? Do you need to check whether your data warehouse follows the best practices for a good design? In both cases, this webinar is for you.
A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
We will discuss these topics:
- How to gather information about a business;
- Understanding dictionaries and how to identify business entities;
- Dimensions and facts;
- Setting a table granularity;
- Types of facts;
- Types of dimensions;
- Snowflakes and how to avoid them;
- Expanding existing dimensions and facts.

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

33. The evaluation schema, Cont'd
1° step: to identify the aims of the stakeholders –
hoteliers and tourists – that the Web site should meet
Hoteliers: in the Italian Alps where tourism is largely
non-mediated and where the offering is provided by
SMEs, the Web site of the single hotel can support:

offers for specific groups;
e-commerce by facilitating booking and full or
partial payment on line;
from the perspective of the destination, the
creation of an image that is holistic and reflective of
the larger destination instead of just the single
business
34. The evaluation schema, Cont'd
When visiting a hotel site, tourists expect to find
a detailed description of the hotel: type, services,
special offers, pictures, news and events in the
area, cultural activities, sport and recreational
activities, contact information, etc.
It would be even more attractive for the tourist if

the site allowed online booking and/or payment
Hotelier and tourist needs or requirements obtained
in this step were then translated by Web sites
analysts in a first set of questions. For example, to
investigate the information about the hotel, one of
the questions was: “Does the Web site contain
information on facilities available in the rooms?”
35. The evaluation schema, Cont'd
2° step: preliminary evaluation to reveal the
macroscopic characteristics and to then calibrate the
evaluation model
The preliminary inspective evaluation done by 2
experts in quality and in tourism showed that
there were notable differences among the hotel

Web sites analyzed, that range from amateur
sites of just a few pages to professional sites; the
dimensions of the sites under examination proved
to be relatively contained, given that most of the
sites analyzed had fewer than 20 pages
These results were used to establish the number
(minimum and maximum) and the granularity of
the questions of the evaluation framework
36. The evaluation schema, Cont'd
3° step: choice of the 7Loci meta-model dimensions that
have to be investigated
As regard the hotel Web sites, we had to look for the
presence of those elements related to the expressed aims
of the hoteliers and tourists; they refer mainly to the
presence of information and services available at the hotel

Web sites, that is to the dimensions Content and Services
Conceptual considerations, confirmed through the practical
use of the 7Loci meta-model, have also led to a focus on
these “semantic” dimensions: Content and Services issues
depend on the particular aspects that characterize a given
class of Web sites and allow to differentiate beyond quality
performances taken for granted by the user
37. The evaluation schema, Cont'd
The underlying assumption is that the aspects which we
are referring to as “syntactic”, which are general and
therefore are considered for all types of site and in all
domains, are a necessary condition but not sufficient in
themselves to achieve the aims of the site (e.g., the
correct functioning of the site - link, HTML, etc.; its
conformity with standards of language use or of

Content Accessibility Guidelines of the W3C Consortium or

can generally be evaluated for the most part automatically
For a sake of completeness, a few questions were added
regarding the proper functioning of the links
(Maintenance) and about languages (Usability)
38. The evaluation schema, Cont'd
The evaluation framework was formulated
by means of an iterative process by a group
of experts in quality and in tourism
The first version of the framework was
tested in order to obtain questions that
