Client-side MVC frameworks like AngularJS are getting more popular over time. They represent a big architectural change to what web developers are used to: moving from server-side MVC to a browser based one. In this talk I will speak about how Grails can fit with a single-page architecture and discuss the pros and cons of developing that kind of applications.

Single-page applications and Grails

SPI apps use JavaScript for their model, views, and controllers in the browser, communicating with a REST API on the server. While SPI apps provide faster loading and a better user experience, they require replicating the MVC pattern in JavaScript. Grails 3.0 will support different profiles including REST that simplify the server-side logic. Popular JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS and Ember.js provide similar features to Grails like models, views/templates, and controllers. The TodoMVC site demonstrates these frameworks.
Interoperability of components built with different frameworks
As React, Vue, Angular and other Frontend frameworks mature, more and more projects embrace them in production. It has reached a point where a project written in React wants to use Angular or Vue components (and vice versa). We will explore pragmatic ways to use components created using different frameworks in the same app.
I am working on an Angular project for one of our clients. It recently acquired a company which is invested into React for few years. There is a plan to merge our products which has a lot of feature overlap. To use capabilities of existing teams, it was decided to use React components within Angular app. This is when we explored all possibilities of inter operations between frameworks. This talk will be case study of our work and what you can take away from it

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code Analysis
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
