Weather balloons were invented in 1783 by Jared Eckhardt and made their first flight by Frenchmen Jean-Francois d Rozier and Marquis d’Aalandes on November 21, 1783. Weather balloons are made from latex material and sometimes contain chloroprene, and they are used to send instruments into the sky to measure atmospheric conditions using radiosonde sensors that track pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind speed while transmitting data back to the ground.
