The document discusses Paul's teachings on exercising spiritual gifts from Romans 12:6-21. It provides commentary on several key points:
1) Christians should use their spiritual gifts, such as prophesying, serving, teaching, exhorting, giving, ruling, and showing mercy, according to the proportion of faith given by God.
2) Believers should show sincere love for one another, preferring others over oneself. They should also generously share with those in need and welcome others hospitably.
3) Christians are called to live peaceably with all, not taking revenge or responding to evil with more evil, but overcoming evil with good by showing love even to enemies.
This document provides guidance on spiritual warfare and helping those experiencing demonic oppression find freedom in Christ. It recommends that the individual accept Christ, renounce sin and false teachings, forgive others, and reject pride. Prayer, Scripture reading, and praise are emphasized as the most important tools. The goal is permanent freedom as the individual walks daily with God, not dependence on others. Victory may not be instant, as continued growth in surrender to Christ is important.
This document discusses spiritual warfare and false prophets. It warns that people should test all signs and wonders to ensure they draw people closer to God rather than away. False prophets often involve immorality or have an independent spirit. The word of God is the truth that reveals lies. Victory comes through Jesus' victory on the cross over our old nature, the world system, and the devil. The document provides additional free resources on spiritual warfare on websites and video channels.
This document summarizes a sermon on 1 Corinthians 13:5, which says love does not brag. It defines bragging as boastfulness and discusses how some in the Corinthian church were arrogant about their wisdom, wealth, or spiritual gifts. The sermon teaches that Christians should not boast but should humble themselves, as God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Believers' worth comes from understanding God, not their own accomplishments or status.
This document discusses spiritual warfare and resisting the enemy. It outlines two main enemies - the flesh and the world system. It emphasizes controlling our thought life and not conforming to the world. Self-deception is described as a major tactic of the enemy, where we think more highly of ourselves or that we won't reap what we sow. Resisting involves taking control of our thoughts with God's truth and wisdom from scripture. Additional resources on spiritual warfare are provided.
This document discusses how showing love for others demonstrates love for God. It argues that if one claims to love God, who they have not seen, but hates others, who they have seen, they are a liar. It also says that how we treat each other reveals our love or lack of love for God, and that in showing love for others we show love for our Lord. The document encourages treating others as we would like to be treated ourselves.

This document discusses walking with the Holy Spirit. It states that some people walk by sight, relying on human senses and experiences, while others walk by the flesh, satisfying carnal desires. However, the best way to walk is by the Spirit. The document outlines how to walk by the Spirit: acknowledge helplessness without Him, ask for His leading, activate faith in God's word, and act according to His prompting. Walking by the Spirit involves enjoying God's presence, overcoming struggles, and reflecting on what He says, leading to freedom and bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
This document discusses the biblical process for correcting believers who have wandered from the truth or committed offenses. It notes that believers should pray for wisdom and present truth in love when turning someone back. If the error involves doctrine, heresy, or repeated personal offenses, then church discipline including admonition and potential rejection may be necessary. The document emphasizes that saving a soul from death through correction covers a multitude of sins.

This document provides ten rules for improving attitudes within the church. The rules encourage members to recognize their own imperfections, focus on faithful members, treat all ages with respect, pray for those needing change, volunteer to help, take responsibility for their own failures, work on self-improvement, look for the good in others, get to know fellow members better, and seek to solve problems rather than criticize. The overall message is to cultivate humility, unity and service within the congregation.

The document provides commentary on Romans 7, which discusses the struggle between the spiritual and carnal natures of humans. It notes that while the Law is good, humans are unable to attain righteousness through the Law alone due to human weakness. It then explains how the Law reveals sin and humans' need for a Savior. It discusses how Paul struggled with doing good versus evil due to the conflict between his inward spiritual desires and outward carnal/sinful tendencies as a human in a mortal body.
The document discusses choosing a positive attitude for the new year based on quotes from Jim Rohn. It says attitude determines our dreams and ability to face challenges. Though others can influence our attitude, we ultimately control it. It suggests choosing an attitude like Christ's of humility, service to others, and following the Golden Rule. Our attitude should bring harmony and build others up.
While Christianity does not promise wealth, health or an absence of suffering, the document notes that living for Christ could mean hardship, persecution, and even greater suffering. Several Bible passages are cited that describe Christians enduring physical torture, imprisonment, poverty, loneliness, the loss of family and possessions, and even death for their faith. However, the document concludes that Christians should not lose hope and should remain faithful to Christ, as suffering in this life will be outweighed by eternal reward.

This document discusses how to avoid offending others and being offended in spiritual matters. It emphasizes resolving conflicts privately according to Jesus' teachings in Matthew 18:15-17. Unresolved conflicts can give Satan an advantage and hinder spiritual life. The document urges believers to be considerate of weaker faith, forgive readily, and restore fallen brothers through confrontation guided by love.

Paul encourages the Philippians to rejoice in the Lord and warns them to beware of those who claim righteousness through works of the flesh or Jewish rituals alone. Though Paul formerly had strong Jewish pedigree and righteousness, he considers all of it as rubbish compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. Paul's desire is to know Christ and his power, share in his sufferings, and attain the resurrection, not because of his own works but through faith in Christ alone.
The document discusses several topics related to human behavior and how to improve oneself spiritually. It describes how perspective, desires and values systems influence behavior. It also outlines three problems - selfishness, arrogance and hurtfulness - that drive thoughts and actions. Additionally, it recommends forgiving others, walking in the spirit through prayer, scripture, fellowship and ministry, and avoiding "banana peels" like judgmental thoughts. The overall message is about understanding human psychology and strengthening one's spiritual life.
The document summarizes a passage from Galatians chapter 6 about avoiding legalism and religious rituals, and instead focusing on transformation through Jesus. It discusses how (1) circumcision and religious acts don't matter, but becoming a new person does; (2) people should avoid intimidation and controversies over religion; and (3) God wants to use transformed people to fulfill His purposes.

The document discusses the importance of friendship in Christianity. It makes three main points:
1) Friendship must be proven through sacrificial love, as demonstrated by Jesus laying down his life for others.
2) Friendship must be practiced by loving one another as commanded by Jesus, as shown through kindness, loyalty, and mutual support.
3) Friendship must be proclaimed, so others know we are Christ's disciples by our love for one another. Christians are called to live out true friendship modeled by Jesus.
1. The document discusses how love is the central message of Christianity according to 1 John. True followers of Christ demonstrate love for one another, as loving others is evidence that one belongs to God.
2. It explores how hate is defined as murder by Jesus and John, and contrasts the loving nature of God with the hateful nature of the world. Christians must demonstrate radical love like Christ by laying down their lives for others.
3. Loving others in deed, not just word, is how Christians walk as Jesus walked. Indifference to the needs of others would contradict God's loving nature. True faith motivates Christians to acts of love.

The passage encourages Christians not to be surprised by suffering, but to rejoice that through suffering they can become more like Christ and glorify God. It says suffering helps strengthen faith and perseverance.
God's love is often described as unconditional, but this document questions that. It argues that if God's love is truly unconditional, why do people need to repent and have faith to be saved? It provides several biblical passages that indicate there are conditions to salvation, such as the need to turn from wickedness. Romans 2 and Psalm 7 describe God's wrath toward the unrepentant. The concept of reconciliation in the Bible also presupposes estrangement between God and man that must be resolved. Overall, the document makes the case that God's love and salvation have conditions of repentance, rather than being absolutely unconditional.

This document discusses building a strong home by avoiding termites that can destroy it from within. It identifies four termites: 1) confusion of roles from secular influences, 2) being too busy and not making time for relationships, 3) insensitivity in marriage, and 4) stubbornness and lack of mutual submission. It encourages admitting if termites have invaded your home, discussing how to control and eliminate them, starting today, and pledging loyalty and trust to God and each other.
The document outlines four steps for a church in Ephesus to get back on track spiritually after leaving their "first love": 1) Remember what it was like when they first became Christians, 2) Repent for drifting away from their faith, 3) Restore their spiritual works and fellowship to how it was originally, or 4) face being removed from their place if they do not repent. The four steps - remember, repent, restore, or be removed - provide a path for the church to regain their lost passion and closeness with God.

Christians are considered strange because they believe things that seem unbelievable like the virgin birth and resurrection. They are also able to do things that seem impossible like attain righteousness and sinless perfection through faith. Christians can know unknowable things that are only revealed by God, and they can see the invisible like eternal glory. While the world views Christians as peculiar, believers are invited to embrace being a strange Christian by obeying Christ.
The document discusses several spiritual gifts that God has given freely to humanity, including living water, bread of life, eternal life, salvation, and Jesus Christ. It emphasizes that these gifts, such as forgiveness of sins and everlasting life, are not of our own doing but are given by God's grace through faith in Jesus. The concluding section encourages remembering that the best gifts come from God when opening presents.
This document provides lessons on building a strong home and marriage. It discusses 4 key principles:
1) No problem is unsolvable, with God all problems have solutions even if difficult.
2) Persistence pays off - working through challenges is better than giving up. Marital success requires sticking with it through hard times.
3) Do not demand rights but release them - each spouse must prioritize the other's needs over their own wants.
4) The goal should be to glorify God, not personal happiness - we were bought by God so our lives and marriages should honor Him. Following these principles can help marriages stay together in challenging times.
This document discusses the concept of double mindedness as described in James 1:5-8. It defines double mindedness as being uncertain about decisions and going back and forth between options without making a choice. It then provides five ways to overcome double mindedness: 1) rely on God's word for guidance, 2) don't test God with "fleece" tests, 3) remember that God can redeem mistakes, 4) make a decision and commit to it, and 5) have faith even if the choice looks bad initially. The conclusion reiterates that readers should be sure their lives are right with God.
The document outlines "the gospel in 5 seconds" by explaining 5 key concepts: 1) the second law that saves us through Jesus Christ, 2) being born again through baptism, 3) Jesus' promised second coming, 4) facing a second death if not baptized, and 5) having a second chance at salvation through repentance. It uses scripture passages to support each concept.
This document discusses the concept of fairness from a biblical perspective. It summarizes several passages from Ezekiel and other books of the Bible. The main points are:
1. God asserts that his ways are fair, while humanity often claims God's ways are not fair when bad things happen.
2. Whether God's judgments and outcomes are fair depends on how each individual lives according to God's standards of righteousness. Those who obey God will be treated fairly, while those who disobey will face consequences.
3. Each person will be judged and rewarded (or punished) according to their own actions and use of the gifts, knowledge, and faith that God has given them. God's standard of fairness is based
This document discusses how Jesus wrote letters to 7 churches in Asia Minor that are recorded in Revelation 2-3. It then examines the common structure of these letters, including greetings, descriptions of Jesus, insights into the churches, criticisms, warnings, promises, and other elements. The document suggests that if Jesus wrote a letter to Cades church today, it would likely contain criticisms and warnings as well as promises if the church repents. It raises the question of how the church would respond and what changes it would make upon receiving such a letter from Jesus.
God does not approve of lying. The document discusses several examples from the Bible where people lied, such as Abraham twice saying his wife Sarah was his sister, and the midwives in Egypt lying to Pharaoh about why they spared the Hebrew baby boys. While these individuals were not punished for their lies, that does not mean God condoned their actions. The document also notes that just because God blessed someone like Abraham does not indicate approval of their lies - God blesses people despite their weaknesses and sins. Lying is explicitly called a sin in other Bible passages cited.
This document discusses the concept of wanting just $3 worth of God - enough to feel comforted but not enough to truly transform one's life or require obedience to God's will. It notes that while we want salvation, we don't want submission to God as our Lord. The document encourages seeking God's will through studying the Bible directly, having an open mind to obey what is taught, and being willing to serve God rather than just wanting comfort or benefits from Him.
This document discusses the origin, intent, extent, demands, hope, price, and response of God's grace according to scripture passages. God is the source of grace which brings salvation for all people. Grace teaches believers to reject sinful desires and live righteously as they await Christ's return. Grace cost God dearly through the sacrifice of Jesus to redeem believers and make them devoted to good works.
This document provides reasons to lay up treasure in heaven rather than on earth. It begins by citing Matthew 6:19-21 where Jesus instructs his followers to store up heavenly rather than earthly treasures. It then gives background on how earthly riches are fleeting and unsatisfying. The main reasons provided are that heavenly treasures are secure while earthly ones can be destroyed, stolen, or lost. Additionally, one's heart and priorities will be oriented towards their treasures. The document also provides guidance on how to lay up heavenly treasure, such as giving to the poor, doing good works, and prioritizing God over money and material goods.
The document discusses how to repent according to the Bible. It explains that to repent, one must: 1) Realize that their current behaviors and actions are sinful and will lead to destruction, 2) Learn what God requires of them by studying the Bible, 3) Make a resolution to change their mind and follow God's teachings instead of their sinful ways, 4) Demonstrate the change through good works and right actions, and 5) Continually walk in righteousness and avoid sin going forward.
The War Within: Spiritual Warfare (Part V)David Turner
The document discusses the battle between the flesh and spirit within Christians. It notes that while Christians still sin due to their fleshly nature, the spirit has conquered through Christ. The spirit provides victory over sin for those who walk by it rather than their flesh. Christians now have freedom and can please God by living according to the spirit and its fruit, rather than the desires of the flesh. The spirit within believers gives them life and power to overcome their sinful flesh.
The document discusses facing giants or temptations in life and finding freedom and victory through faith in God. It emphasizes surrendering to God through obedience, forgiveness, submission, humility, and accountability. Key points include never facing giants alone with just human strength, but relying on God who is greater; freedom coming through confession and repentance of sins; and freedom from sin's power through submitting to God and His truth.
The document discusses biblical passages related to sexual purity and morality. It provides numerous quotes encouraging believers to flee sexual immorality and lust, honor their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit, and remain faithful in marriage. The quotes also teach that God understands human temptation but provides a way of escape, and that Jesus can empathize with human weakness through his own experiences with temptation.
The document discusses the topic of victory over sin through faith in Jesus Christ. It provides scriptural references and analysis showing that through Christ, believers can have victory over sin even though they still struggle with sinful desires of the flesh. The key is relying on Christ's victory over sin and death, rather than one's own efforts to obey religious laws or rules.
Don't be surprised when -- not if -- you find yourself suffering in God's will -- This will happen! You are folllowing Christ's example of reproving the world with a love for them that hates sin enough to suffer. Paul said that in suffering, you're in God's death-to-Life march, on display for the world to marvel at. So prepare and consider proper suffering the honor it is, that is to be rewarded by Him.

This document contains a sermon about spiritual warfare against Satan and demons. It discusses how Christians must know their enemy (Satan and demons), know their King (Jesus Christ), and use the armor and weapons of God, which include truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word of God, prayer, and perseverance. The sermon emphasizes the importance of prayer in spiritual warfare and communicating with God, who ultimately leads Christians to victory over Satan and the forces of evil.
The document discusses chapters 7 and 8 of the book of Romans. It examines how the law increases sin and death while grace through Jesus Christ brings righteousness and life. Paul addresses how believers are no longer bound under the law but are now free to serve God through the Spirit. He describes the internal struggle between desires of the flesh and obedience to God.
The document discusses understanding temptation. It begins by stating that everyone faces temptation but not everyone understands it. It then provides information about temptation: (1) Temptation comes from Satan, not God; (2) Temptation itself is not a sin, only giving in to it is; (3) Temptation can be resisted through submitting to God and avoiding situations that may trigger it. The document also notes that temptation can be overcome through endurance, asking others for help if overcome, and God's deliverance; and that temptation tends to decrease with consistent effort over time.
The document discusses two key views of the cross: 1) We are perpetrators - focusing on what Jesus accomplished in relationship to how we stand before God (atonement, propitiation, justification). 2) We are victims - focusing on what Christ accomplished in relationship to the bondage of sin, death, and the devil (redemption, ransom). It then discusses the biblical definition of sin as any failure to conform to God's moral law. Five observations from Scripture are provided about the total effects of sin: 1) It affects every human. 2) Our rebellion against God is total. 3) In rebellion, everything man does is sin. 4) Man's inability to submit to God or do good is total.

The document discusses the concept of "the unknown" from a biblical perspective over five sections:
1. The Unknown Development - discusses how a person is spiritually "dead" before salvation but called to consider themselves "dead" after salvation.
2. The Unknown Director - emphasizes that one must choose to serve God rather than sin.
3. The Unknown Deceiver - warns about being deceived by sin and corrupted by evil influences.
4. The Unknown Disappointment - notes that not all who strive will receive rewards and success is not guaranteed in spiritual life.
5. The Unknown Declaration - stresses the importance of self-examination to avoid being "reprobate" and facing rejection from
The document contains several passages from the Bible that use the phrase "Do you not know?" Each passage is highlighting something that Christians should understand, such as being baptized into Christ's death, being slaves either to sin or righteousness, and that friendship with the world is against God. The overall message is that Christians are expected to know and understand these fundamental truths revealed in scripture.

This document is a sermon outline from the Jackson Street Church of Christ discussing the importance of maintaining a clear conscience. It begins by welcoming attendees and asking them to turn off cell phones. The main points made are:
1) All people have sinned and can feel guilt, but through confession and faith in God our consciences can be cleared.
2) We should desire a clear conscience and can know it is clear if we pray honorably and remember others in prayer. Suffering may be required to maintain a pure conscience.
3) Our consciences are not always a safe guide, as they can become hardened or defiled. We should never violate our own conscience or cause others to st
Chapter 6 of "Bible Basics" a Bible study manual, dealing with satan, the devil and demons. The case is made that Satan doesn't exist as a personal, cosmic being; rather does the word simply mean an adversary, and is sometimes used about ordinary people, and at times is used as a personification of sin.

This document discusses how common words in the Bible take on special meanings. It provides examples of words like fellowship, deacon, elder, confession, and baptism that were ordinary words but took on theological or ecclesiastical significance in scripture. Koine Greek is also discussed as the common language during the time of Jesus that the New Testament was written in. Care must be taken not to lose sight of the special meanings God assigned to these words when reading and studying the Bible.
Under severe persecution, it was necessary for the church to go underground. God promised the church would remain forever. While the church did not cease, it did go into the wilderness.
The document discusses Ephesians 2:8-10 and how the Ephesian Christians obtained their salvation. It summarizes that the Ephesians (1) heard the word of God, (2) believed what they heard, (3) repented of their sins, (4) confessed their faith, and (5) were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. The conclusion is that the Ephesians were saved by God's grace through obeying the gospel and good works that God prepared for them.
The document discusses the Nicolaitans, a heretical group that Jesus rebuked in Revelation. It says they were connected to Balaam, who led Israel into idolatry and sexual immorality, and to Jezebel, who taught sexual immorality and idolatry. Like the Epicureans, the Nicolaitans encouraged unrestrained indulgence and ignoring God's will. The document suggests similar teachings exist today in forms of false religions, pornography, and the view that anything goes morally. Jesus hated the Nicolaitans for opposing God through false teachings promoting immorality.
The document discusses three professions that Christians should emulate:
SOLDIER - Christians must endure hardship, be strong in their faith, face adversity without getting tangled in worldly affairs.
ATHLETE - They must play by God's rules, train and work hard in their faith, competing and striving for their spiritual goals.
FARMER - Christians are called to work diligently for their faith, plant spiritual seeds, weed out distractions, and be patient, trusting that their harvest will come.
The document discusses the history and lessons of Babylon through three iterations:
1. Babylon started as the Tower of Babel under Nimrod but was stopped by God confusing languages.
2. The ancient city of Babylon rose to power under kings like Nebuchadnezzar and influenced Israelite exile.
3. Revelation prophesies a final "Babylon" representing immorality, false religion, and persecution that will ultimately be destroyed by God.
There is confusion around the use of numbers in Revelation. In early alphabets and cultures, letters were also used as numbers, such as A=1, B=2, etc. Words could be assigned numerical values by adding up the individual letter values. Some numbers came to symbolize concepts - for example, 7 represents perfection. While numerology should not be overemphasized, some numbers like 40 and 7 appear frequently in the Bible and may have significance in Revelation.
The document discusses why we work from both a biblical and practical perspective. It begins by citing Genesis 3:17-18, where God curses the ground and tells Adam he must work by the sweat of his brow to eat. It then discusses some wrong reasons for working, such as to acquire things, impress others, or feel useless. The right reasons given are that work is part of God's plan, allows us to help those in need, and shows we trust in God rather than working to earn salvation or heaven. The overall message is that we should work diligently not for selfish gain but to fulfill God's purpose and help others.
Unproductive Worry discusses how worry is unnecessary, unreasonable, unfaithful, and unwise. Studies show that most worries are over things that will never happen or are out of our control. Jesus teaches that worry cannot change anything and we should instead trust that God cares for us and will provide what we need. The document concludes that there is no need to worry whether a problem has a solution or not, and we should focus on God's promises instead of wasting time worrying.
This document discusses Jesus' teachings about putting spiritual matters before physical or worldly concerns. It examines several biblical passages where Jesus instructs people to address spiritual or inner issues first before outward or physical issues. For example, Jesus tells the Pharisees to first clean the inside of cups and dishes rather than just the outside. The document emphasizes that Christians must be clean on the inside through their character and beliefs rather than just appearing righteous outwardly. It encourages putting things like worship, prayer, and one's relationship with God as the highest priority.
The document discusses two passages of scripture from Isaiah 42:10-12 and Revelation 5:8-10. It summarizes that Revelation describes a new song sung by the four living creatures and 24 elders praising the Lamb for redeeming mankind through his blood. The new song honors God for the price, means, and destination of redemption, having redeemed people from every nation to reign as kings and priests.
The document discusses the biblical definition of a saint and clarifies some common misuses of the term. A saint is simply a holy one, referring to anyone who is dedicated and consecrated to God. In the Bible, saints include all believers, members of local churches, and those who worship God. To become a saint, one must repent of sins, be saved from sin through faith in Christ, and dedicate their life to following God. A saint is not a super Christian or someone who performed miracles - it is any believer who commits their life to God.
The document discusses three tough choices that Jesus presents to those who want to follow him. The first is choosing discomfort over comfort to follow Jesus. The second is choosing spiritual matters over physical ones, like burying a father. The third choice is establishing new relationships by following Jesus instead of maintaining old ones by saying farewell. Each time, Jesus stresses putting him first without hesitation or second guessing. The conclusion is that following Jesus requires tough choices where believers must prioritize him without excuses.
The document discusses the New Testament teachings on confessing sins. It notes several passages where people confessed their sins during baptism or after believing. It then addresses questions like who should confess sins, to whom they should confess, how specific confessions should be, why people hesitate to confess to each other, and the purpose of confession, which is to show repentance rather than spread gossip. The overall message is that confession involves acknowledging sins to God and others affected as part of the repentance process.
Samson faced difficulties when a lion attacked him, but after killing the lion he discovered honey inside its carcass. Christians also face persecution but can find blessings, even in hard times. We should share blessings with others, as Samson shared the honey with his parents, without sharing unnecessary details of where it came from.
The document discusses four levels of living and principles for achieving the highest fourth level, which is characterized by giving thanks for all things.
Level one involves always complaining and being gruff. Level two takes blessings for granted. Level three is grateful for obvious blessings. Level four gives thanks for all things.
Five principles are outlined for level four living: gratitude should be proper, perpetual, pervasive, pleasurable, and possible by being filled with the spirit and submitting to God. The document encourages taking time to be grateful for all God's blessings.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
The Book of Ruth is included in the third division, or the Writings, of the Hebrew Bible. In most Christian canons it is treated as one of the historical books and placed between Judges and 1 Samuel.

The Book of Samuel is a book in the Hebrew Bible, found as two books in the Old Testament. The book is part of the Deuteronomistic history, a series of books that constitute a theological history of the Israelites and that aim to explain God's law for Israel under the guidance of the prophets.
1. WE ARE AT WAR
2 Corinthians 10:4-6
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
5 casting down arguments and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the
obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to
punish all disobedience when your obedience is
fulfilled.
2. We are at War!
Not about military might
or political or physical
warfare
I want you to focus on
spiritual warfare
Our text – not with
weapons, not carnal
Our fight is against evil
and wickedness
3. We are at war – with Satan
Jesus fought this battle
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High
Priest who cannot sympathize with our
weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as
we are, yet without sin.
We must fight this battle
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one
man sin entered the world, and death through
sin, and thus death spread to all men, because
all sinned
4. We are at war – with Satan
Elders must fight this battle
1 Timothy 3:6-7 6 not a novice, lest being
puffed up with pride he fall into the same
condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must
have a good testimony among those who are
outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare
of the devil.
5. We are at war – with Satan
Each Christian must fight this war
1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because
your adversary the devil walks about like a
roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9
Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that
the same sufferings are experienced by your
brotherhood in the world.
James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you.
6. We are at war – against the world
Our society is in a sinful state
Abortion
Similar to Sodom and Gomorrah
1 John 2:15-17 , the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the
world. 17 And the world is passing away, and
the lust of it; but he who does the will of God
abides forever. yes, and the pride of life--is not
of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the
world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he
who does the will of God abides forever.
7. We are at war – against the world
Our society is in a sinful state
Abortion
Similar to Sodom and Gomorrah
1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from every form
of evil.
James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before
God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and
widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself
unspotted from the world.
8. We are at war – against perverting
the gospel
Any false doctrine or practice is of the devil.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 13 For such are false
apostles, deceitful workers, transforming
themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no
wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself
into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great
thing if his ministers also transform themselves
into ministers of righteousness, whose end will
be according to their works.
9. We are at war – against perverting
the gospel
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit,
but test the spirits, whether they are of God;
because many false prophets have gone out
into the world.
Jude 3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to
write to you concerning our common salvation, I
found it necessary to write to you exhorting you
to contend earnestly for the faith which was
once for all delivered to the saints.
10. We are at war – within self
James 1:13-16 13 Let no one say when he is
tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God
cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself
tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted
when he is drawn away by his own desires and
enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it
gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown,
brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my
beloved brethren.
11. We are at war – within self
We are responsible to overcome this battle.
James 4:1-3 1 Where do wars and fights come
from among you? Do they not come from your
desires for pleasure that war in your members?
2 You lust and do not have. You murder and
covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet
you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You
ask and do not receive, because you ask
amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
12. We are at war – within self
We are responsible to overcome this battle.
1 Corinthians 9:27 But I discipline my body
and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have
preached to others, I myself should become
disqualified.
Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my
heart, That I might not sin against You!
Proverbs 23:7a For as he thinks in his heart,
so is he.
13. We are at war – within self
Romans 7:18-21 18 For I know that in me (that
is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is
present with me, but how to perform what is
good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to
do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I
practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is
no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me,
the one who wills to do good.
14. We are at war – within self
Romans 7:22-25 22 For I delight in the law of
God according to the inward man. 23 But I see
another law in my members, warring against
the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my
members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who
will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I
thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So
then, with the mind I myself serve the law of
God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
15. We are at war
This is a battle that we must win.
2 Timothy 4:6-8 6 For I am already being
poured out as a drink offering, and the time of
my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the
good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept
the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the
crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day,
and not to me only but also to all who have
loved His appearing.
