Warning Signs Your
Mattress Needs to
be Replaced
Introduction
• Mattresses are one of the most important pieces of furniture
in your house since you spend eight hours or so every night on
your mattress getting your most important rest.
• Despite the importance of mattresses, many people do not
replace their mattresses frequently enough. This can actually
cause health problems and physical issues that are damaging
to your body.
Introduction
• Don’t let yourself be one of those
people who sleeps on an old and
uncomfortable mattress.
• Instead, pay attention to these warning
signs so you can make a smart choice
about when it is time to replace your
mattress.
Introduction
• Here are 5 key warning signs that you need to go mattress
shopping:
• Waking up is painful
• Your mattress is saggy or lumpy.
• You notice you sleep better when you sleep somewhere besides
your bed.
• Your mattress is causing you to feel stuffy or have allergies.
• Your mattress is smelly, frayed or stained.
Waking Up is Painful.
• If you experience back, neck or shoulder pain when you wake
up, this means that it is high time for you to replace your
mattress.
• You do not want to damage your back by sleeping on an old
mattress that no longer provides sufficient support as you
sleep.
Saggy/Lumpy Mattress
• A saggy or lumpy mattress is inherently not going to provide
the support that you need.
• If your back isn’t hurting yet, chances are that it will soon if
you continue to sleep on your old and warn mattress.
You Sleep Better Sleep When
You’re NOT In Bed
• If you visit a friend or go and stay in a hotel and you find
yourself sleeping better then you do when you are at home,
this is a clear sign that your mattress is not as comfortable as
it ought to be.
• When you get back home from your vacation, it can be time
to go mattress shopping.
Stuffy/Allergies
• As your mattress ages, dust mites and other household
allergens can become trapped in the mattress fibers.
• Eventually, even cleaning the mattress is not going to solve
the problem and you may find that going to bed aggravates
your sinuses every night.
• As many as 10 percent of adults have sensitivity to household
dust mites. Unfortunately, as many as 19,000 dust mites can
live in one gram of dust and there can be many grams of dust
on an old mattress. In fact, the average bed has 2 million dust
mites living in it!
Smelly/Frayed/Stained
Mattress
• Often, kids, pets and household happenings result in your
mattress becoming dirty and stained.
• When your mattress develops an odor that does not go away
or has a lot of stains on it, it may be time for you to upgrade
to a new model.
Conclusion
• While everyone needs to be on the lookout for these warning
signs that they need a new mattress, older people need to be
especially aware of whether their bed is no longer suiting their
needs.
• Once a person reaches age 40, he may need to change his
mattress every eight years or so in order to have the
appropriate firmness level for his changing physical needs.
