The Great Wall of China stretches over 7,300 miles and was constructed over centuries to defend against invaders from the north. Beginning as early as the 3rd century BC under the Qin Dynasty, different dynasties added to and reinforced sections of the wall. Built by conscripted laborers, the wall ranges from 7-10 meters tall and features stone, brick, and packed earth construction reinforced by wood. While some well-visited sections are maintained for tourism, other parts have deteriorated or been destroyed. It remains one of the most impressive ancient structures in the world.
