How can we help to connect urban dog owners
with willing and available dog walkers?
Design Question
• How likely would dog owners be to use the Waggit service?
• What technological constraints or barriers to entry would be associated with the
app/service?
• What do dog owners want to know about dog walkers?
• What needs do dog owners have that are not currently addressed?
• What information do dog walkers need about dog owners and dogs before they
agree to work for them?
• Are there similar existing services that can be evaluated for competitive
analysis?
• How are people currently finding and hiring dog walkers? What aspects of them
do they like? What do they dislike? What do they wish these methods had?
• Registration process for both the service provider and customer?
• Reservation and cancellation process?
• Payment process for services rendered?
• Cost and payment structure - how much are consumers willing to pay?
• How does Waggit make money?

How FREQUENTLY they use a dog walker
!
How REGULARLY they use a dog walker
Some users use a dog walker on a regular schedule, while some use one only intermittently.

Testing Methodology
Lo-Fi Evaluation
1. Use email instead of username to login in.
2. Add a filter screen so that users can enter their search criteria the first time they search.
3. Make the functions of the “Book” and “Add” buttons more clear (these were confusing to
users).
4. On the “Available Today” screen, we do not need have the year listed.
5. Use “Search” instead of “Check” on the walker search screen (2 users were unclear on what
“Check” meant).
6. Add pop up notice for reminders and confirmations.
7. Users should be able to view a list of scheduled upcoming appointments from the main
screen, as opposed to digging into the application with a bunch of clicks.
8. There should be navigation buttons (home screen, back, search etc.) on each screen
9. When searching for dog walkers or viewing a list of walkers, price, rating, and distance should
be obvious without having to view the dog walker’s profile.

Hi-Fi Prototype
Evaluation
The slide-out navigation menu should help users significantly in
navigating the app.
!
It is important to differentiate text entry boxes from plain text
boxes — making a manipulatable element confusable with a
static one is frustrating to users.
!
If something looks like it ought to do something, it should
probably do that thing — e.g. if it looks like touching your dog’s
name should take you to your dog’s profile, make it do that.
!
We need to add an obvious way to save edits to text and to the
dog profile. This should be very obvious to the user.
!
We need to be more careful with our wording in popup boxes.

The “cancel a walk” popup confused several users.
Next Time
Design, prototype, and test for both the dog owner and dog
walker interface (we only designed for dog owner this time).
!
More time to explore and learn Hi-Fi prototype software —
Justinmind (we basically had to learn Justinmind while building
the Hi-Fi prototype).
!
Create a style guide in place before working on the Hi-Fi
prototype (at times different screens built by different team
members had different type faces, line weighs and UI controls).
!
Test with more users — 5-8 instead of 2-4.
