The rooftop garden at the W Hotel in New York City was designed as an exclusive oasis above the city with fantastic views of the skyline. Native grasses, birch trees, and ornamental plants were used to create a lush landscape contrasting with hardscape lounge areas and shade structures. The adjacent urban plaza includes a food kiosk, dining terrace, and public seating areas. As project manager and landscape architect, key responsibilities included designing and overseeing construction of the rooftop garden and plaza.

DESCRIPTION: The rooftop garden is designed as an exclusive sleek
oasis above the surrounding urban environment that gives
residents the opportunity to enjoy fantastic views of the city
skyline as well as lounge in the sun and entertain guests in
the built in sinuous lounges and shade structures. Groves
of birch saplings, and swathes of ornamental grasses
and forbs form create a foil to the hardscape and built in
furnishings. The at grade urban plaza creates a public
space with a food kiosk, dining terrace for the W Hotel and
built in furnishings and raised terrace and gardens.
