Right now voice UIs like Siri are, well…. hit and miss. But all the big players are heavily investing in voice UI, let’s suppose it will be much smarter, soon. What does that mean for us designers? Will screen UI even be required? Should we be changing our workflow now? In this talk, Ben will look at the current capabilities of Voice UIs, how the APIs are connecting to apps, what’s next, and how this might change our design process and products.

Siri, Cortana, Alexa - voice recognition is going mainstream. What does this technology mean for your business? How does speech fit with the internet of things, with virtual agents, or in the enterprise space? Crispin Reedy, a voice interaction designer with over 10 years of experience, and the president of the Association for Voice Interaction Design, will review the current state of speech recognition and natural language technologies, discuss how they fit in the emerging landscape of distributed devices, and discuss techniques and methods to evaluate these interfaces.

In "The Human Interface", I explain how we can make better products when we think of them as human beings.
This is the version I presented at the Interaction 10 conference in Savannah (significantly updated from the one presented at the 2009 O'Reilly Web 2.0 Expo in New York).
Apologies to all the cited people and rights-holders I have not yet had time to credit.
With each passing day, our relationship with computers grows more personal. The touch of a human hand has replaced the mouse, and conversational interfaces now seem set to replace all manner of button or conventional interface. Is this pure hype, or a true step change in the evolution of personal computing?
In this workshop we will look at the current state of conversational interfaces, the challenges and benefits they bring, and where things are heading.

Agile 2014 presentation by Martina Schell shares the discovery and framing process that helps to explore and define a digital product opportunity, ready for agile development. Focus on creating a lean process that removes enough uncertainty to move into delivery.
Requirements, feature lists, quantitative data. We understand business requirements and technical feasibility quite well. But what does it mean to collaborate with your users in the product design process? It can be a lot more challenging to make sense of user research and how to get from speaking to customers to creating better user-centered products.
This session demystifies the process of getting from user research to insights and an actionable framework for experience design that informs your product development.
I have applied this framework across startups through to enterprise scale product and service development programs to improve problem/solution and product/market fit.
In this practical session you will learn how to put together a framework that captures the insights and opportunity you have gleaned from collaborating with your customers and help guide your product development process with clear user goals and design principles.
You will be able to create a frame of reference for decision making that incorporates:
• insights derived from customer research (qualitative user interviews)
• trends / best practice desk research
• business requirements capture (stakeholder interviews)
• audience definition (personas) that also inform recruitment of participants for testing throughout the development process
• proposition/opportunity
• scenarios
• user journeys
• touchpoint mapping
• design principles (draw from brand, product, dev and UX)
The UXies inspire all technologists to create elegant, human-centered products that solve real customer problems by showcasing next-generation digital products, honoring and celebrating with the most talented UX innovators and highlighting exceptional UX best practices.
Hybrid events, theories and techniques to extend the reach of an eventStefania Conti-Vecchi
This very practical seminar presented by Stefania Conti-Vecchi at the EVETEX conference in Sofia in February 2014, showed how to extend the reach of an event and provided solutions and tools to turn it into a hybrid one that can involve a wider audience. Having defined the difference between a simple virtual connection and a hybrid event, the seminar identified the type of event most suitable for the new format, the management techniques to seize opportunities arising from them and the possible financial advantages. You can find in the slides a check-list of necessary technologies and specific aspects of the format, with suggestions on how to promote a hybrid event on social media sites and measure its ROE (Return On Engagement). Every aspect has been analysed from different viewpoints: that of the organiser, the speaker/facilitator, the venue hosting the event and of course the “real” and “virtual” participants. Finally, some examples of hybrid events (board meetings, conventions, sales training etc.), showing the pros and cons of the solutions adopted.

Ignite Potential – Value exchange networks (Stephen Gay and Rich Radka)Stephen Gay
What does every successful start-up, venture capitalist and savvy designer know? It’s that “value exchange networks” have the power to ignite massive human potential to grow business and delight consumers through connected services. If you’ve checked in with Foursquare, rated a seller on eBay, or answered a question on Quora, then you’ve participated in a value exchange network. So what are value exchange networks? They are networks in which the value is co-created and exchanged in a decentralized and distributed way by all participants – consumers are transformed into creators, promoters, problem-solvers, and even co-owners. Today most industries are being transformed by leveraging these value exchange networks. Services are shifting from an era in which companies created and delivered monolithic offerings to passive consumers, to an era in which services exist as networks of value co-creation. In this new landscape, lines separating consumer and company are dissolving, and companies are acting as enablers of value creation, discovery, and exchange rather than solely creators and distributors.

You could be a professional graphic designer and still make mistakes. There is always the possibility of human error. On the other hand if you’re not a designer, the chances of making some common graphic design mistakes are even higher. Because you don’t know what you don’t know. That’s where this blog comes in. To make your job easier and help you create better designs, we have put together a list of common graphic design mistakes that you need to avoid.
