Increasingly companies in China have recognised the potential for community engagement and employee
volunteering in their sustainability strategies. And many companies are now actively formulating strategies that
engage with social organisations through employee volunteering.

Corporate volunteering programmes have clear advantages. They are a way to demonstrate commitment to the
community and thereby build greater consumer trust in your company and its products and brand. They offer your
company the opportunity to have employees build professional and personal skills and raise their ability to organise
and manage projects. And they increase employee job satisfaction, enhance corporate culture and have the potential
to boost the recruitment and retention of talented employees.

VSO is the world’s leading international development charity that works through volunteers. We have more than 50
years of experience in recruitment, training and management of volunteers and in development programming. VSO
is now working with corporate partners in China to build the capacity of employee volunteering programmes and
the capacity of charitable organisations. We broker opportunities for staff to get involved part time in the capacity
building of charitable organisations (NGOS) or in community events or community volunteering.

Through Partnerships for Development, VSO provides companies with an affordable approach to demonstrating
social responsibility and to be part of large programme with a clear development effect; one that can be represented
in individual company CSR reports. It guarantees that partners’ contribution will be appropriately recognised in all
publications and publicity; including the annual Volunteering Expo that featured on CCTV in 2010 and 2011.

Partnerships for Development offers companies the opportunity to enhance employee job satisfaction, recruitment
and retention and to develop core skills in communication, team work, project management, problem-solving, and
conflict negotiation. Employees also benefit from a range of soft skills, particularly in building self-confidence.
Through its consulting company in Beijing, VSO also has existing capacity to provide cooperate employee volunteering
programmes with world class training and consulting in;

• Volunteer Programme Development and Management
• Volunteer Management Systems
• Approaches to Working with Social Organisations
• Organisational Learning Systems
• Organisational Leadership and Development

We can deliver training tailored to individual company needs for up to twenty staff members. We also offer
Employee Volunteering Programme Development consulting and mentoring, delivered through experienced staff and
volunteers.

If your company is interested in Partnerships for Development or Training & Consulting email
Simon.Brown@vsoint.org or Michael.Mapstone@vso.org.uk. We will be happy to answer any questions you might
have. We offer a free preliminary Partnership Scan to determine what kind of corporate volunteering programme
might suit your company best. To stay informed about VSO activities in China please visit our websites
www.vsoconsulting-cn.com or www.vso-cn.org.

VSO is extremely grateful to the deVere Group for its partnership in marketing VSO’s products in China and to its
support of charitable sector capacity building that benefits the least advantaged people of China.
