Youth participation in New Zealand politics is an issue, as only around three quarters of eligible young voters actually enroll to vote. When they do vote, young voters are more likely to support the Green Party. International research shows that young voters feel less secure economically and that their interests are excluded from formal politics. To increase youth participation, political parties need to put more young candidates forward, genuinely listen to youth views rather than just asking for their vote, and integrate youth wings better into party organizations. Educational reforms could also help, such as teaching civic topics in schools and allowing experiential learning opportunities.

This document discusses the UK Q-Step Initiative, which aims to increase quantitative skills training for students. It provides examples of three students who participated in summer internships through the program. Marcus interned at a social and political think-tank, Victoria at the Home Office Crime and Policy Unit, and Anna at a social and political data consultancy. All three found the internships extremely valuable, giving them experience and confidence in their quantitative skills. The internships helped lead directly to job offers for Victoria and inspired other students to consider quantitative dissertations and further study in research methods.

It discusses the Australian National Data Service and an organization called Involving People in Research that was established in 1998 to support community involvement in health research. The organization provides advocacy, community links, evidence and methods to support involvement of community members in research. While early concerns focused on privacy and informed consent, more recent views show that people are open to data sharing if researchers communicate results and improve lives. Greater awareness and involvement of community members is still needed.

Community-engaged approaches were used to recruit 18 transgender women living with HIV in Indiana for a research study. The recruitment process took 21 months and involved partnering with community organizations, advisory boards, and community leaders. Most participants were referred by recruitment sites and community advisory board members, highlighting the importance of community engagement. The study found that relationship-building, giving back to the community, and addressing issues of importance to transgender women were key to overcoming barriers to research participation.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. The researcher is Christopher Pepin-Neff from the University of Sydney. Participants can withdraw at any time without penalty and all results will be confidential and reported without identifying individuals. Complaints about the study can be directed to the University of Sydney's Human Research Ethics Committee.

Nonprofit VOTE’s model increases the capacity of service providers to do voter engagement work and improve models for nonprofits to register and engage voters in the course of ongoing activities. Using this model, Forefront will begin a phase of training and supporting voter engagement activities at organizations with high foot traffic in areas with low voter engagement.
COVID-19 support webinar - Managing ADHD during isolation

Learning to tread lightly in the boreal forest
Energy exploration activities have affected Alberta’s boreal forest, contributing to the decline of caribou and other native species. While many are working to develop ways to restore boreal ecosystems, the full extent of these disturbances remains undocumented. For example, a recent study in the journal Nature Communications revealed unintended increases in methane emissions from boreal wetlands caused by seismic lines.
Researchers from UCalgary and UWaterloo are working collaboratively with industry partners to better understand and mitigate the effects of oil and gas development in the boreal forest. Learn more about their research and pioneering new technologies aimed at helping to restore the forest and wetlands back to a healthy, thriving state.

Aging well: Are you prepared?
Dr. Lorraine Venturato is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing whose research focuses on enhancing care options and quality of life for older adults. Her research program includes several projects aimed at understanding aging experiences, challenging stereotypes of older adults, and developing the long-term care workforce. This document summarizes a presentation by Dr. Paul Arnold on the roots of anxiety. It discusses how anxiety disorders are commonly treated with SSRIs or CBT. Genetic factors play a role, as anxiety runs in families and certain genetic variants may increase risk. However, genes interact with the environment - those with risk variants may be more susceptible to environmental stressors. Understanding the biological and environmental roots of anxiety can help advance prevention and more targeted treatment approaches.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
