Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is the acclaimed largest study of entrepreneurial dy-
namics in the world, providing information to help policy makers, civil society and the busi-
ness community understand the obstacles to nurturing entrepreneurship, enterprise promo-
tion and growth. GEM annual surveys are carried out in 99 countries.
The GEM survey noted that Nigeria leads the world in the proportion of the population who
believe they have the skills to run a business, with almost 90 percent of Nigerian adults be-
lieving they have the ability to become entrepreneurs. The result of the survey shows that
out of every 100 Nigerian adults, 35 are involved in some sort of entrepreneurial activities. It
added that Nigerians are not deterred by fear that their new enterprise will fail; only 21 per-
cent were concerned by this risk.
Over 82 percent of Nigerian youths see entrepreneurship as a good career, 77 percent be-
lieve that successful entrepreneurs have high status and recognition and 78 percent are com-
fortable with the level of visibility that entrepreneurs enjoy in the media.
3. You’re unemployable, and there’s
nothing wrong with that. Life skills are
more valuable than the office politics
commonly found at 9-to-5 routine.
4. You’re a bit out there. Having the
ability to create something out of
nothing takes a mad-genius type of
person. Remember, people thought
Albert Einstein was insane before he
proved the theory of relativity.
5. You enjoy being with a group but
don't relish much being alone. You
probably get most energetic when
working with groups of more than four
people.
6. You’re unpredictable. As an entre-
preneur, you know how quickly things
can change. Thankfully, you're ready
and willing to make adjustments.
7. You realize that you can’t do every-
thing alone. You have an idea and can
promote it but also know that you’re
not skilled at every task of running a
business.

Signs That You Might Be An
Entrepreneur
Entrepreneurs are a unique group of
people. Not only do they think differ-
ently; they act differently. They draw
on personality traits, habits and mind-
sets to come up with ideas that makes
open the line between insanity and
genius. If you ever wondered if you were
an entrepreneur, check out the following
list.
1. You hate the status quo. You’re a person
who is always questioning why people do
the things they do. You strive to make
things better and are willing to take action
on it.
2. You believe that there is more than one
definition of job security: You realize that
your job is safe as long as you are in con-
trol as opposed to relying on a boss who
could ruin your career after one swift mis-
take.
