AUDITION NOTICE
General Information and Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY:
2. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Students should prepare to sing two musical selections from standard
vocal literature. Classical, operatic, legit musical theatre or ISSMA Group I
pieces are appropriate.
• One selection must be in English and the second selection must be
performed in a foreign language.
• Students must provide two judges' copies of selections with numbered
measures, and one copy for the accompanist. Selections must be
performed in the same key as the copies provided.
• Selections should be of contrasting style and tempo, and each piece
should not exceed five minutes in length. cont’d. next slide…
3. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Selections should show the character and quality of your voice, vocal
range, and musicianship.
• Selections should be age appropriate and display a sensitivity to vocal
weight.
• Audition selections must be performed from memory (without
sheet music).
• Audition selections will be performed with piano accompaniment. No
pre-recorded accompaniments will be allowed. An accompanist will be
provided (free of charge) for the audition, or you may bring your own.

4. AUDITION PROCEDURE:
Completed applications must be received by March 24, 2016 (postmarked or
via e-mail). You will be notified within ten days of your assigned time for the
live auditions which will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Duesenberg
Recital Hall at the Center for the Arts, Valparaiso University, 1709 Chapel
Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383. You should arrive at the audition location at least
20 minutes before your scheduled time. You must provide three (3) clean
copies of your audition pieces - two for the judges with measures numbered
and one for the accompanist. You will perform your selections for a panel of
judges who will evaluate your performance in several areas; vocal tone,
technique, intonation, musicianship, diction, and interpretation. Auditions will
be closed to the public.
5. WINNERS:
Two performers will be selected:
The first place winner will receive a scholarship award of $500 to be used for
the continued study of music (private lessons, tuition for college or summer
music programs, etc.), and an engagement to perform their audition selections
as part of the Lyric Opera Singers Concert on May 20, 2016 in the Valparaiso
Concert Association's current season.
The second place winner will receive a scholarship award of $250 to be used
for the continued study of music (private lessons, tuition for college or summer
music programs, etc.), and an engagement to perform their audition selections
as part of the Lyric Opera Singers Concert on May 20, 2016 in the Valparaiso
Concert Association's current season.
