1    alliteration      two or more words which have the same initial sound

2    assonance         a partial rhyme which has the same internal vowel sounds among different words

3    personification   the act of giving human characteristics to an abstract or inanimate object

4    onomatopoeia      words that sounds like their meaning e.g. buzz, moo, pow

5    metaphor          a comparison which does NOT use like or as
6    simile            a comparison using the words like or as

7    symbolism         the use of a symbol to represent something else through resemblance or association

8    imagery           the use of vivid or expressive language to represent objects, actions or ideas

9    hyperbole         deliberate exaggeration used for emphasis or effect

10   theme             the message, point of view and idea of a poem

11   rhyme             repetition of the same or similar sounds, usually at the end of a line

12   rhythm            the flow of words within poetry
