The issuance of the DD Form 2586 Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) document is sponsored by
the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Management Policy, in cooperation with the military services. The VMET
document is an "all-services" integrated form which displays demographic, training, and experience information that is
retrieved from various automated sources.
The VMET document is not filed in your personnel record; it's generated at your request for your personal use only. Use
it in combination with your evaluation reports, training certificates, award citations, transcripts, and other pertinent
documents to prepare resumes and job applications. It is not an official transcript for purposes of granting college credit,
but it can be used to support your proof of having met training and/or course requirements to qualify for civilian
occupations, certificates, licenses, or programs of study. Credit recommendations from the American Council of
Education (ACE) for occupations and/or courses are listed when they are available; academic institutions determine
which credits are applicable to a program of study. Your military training and experience may also be supported by a
transcript from the Joint Services Transcript. For official transctipts log-on to the JTS web site (https://jst.doded.mil/) for

The VMET is not a statement of service and it does not mirror your official military personnel record. It is a "snapshot" of
information contained in the personnel data system on the date reflected in Item 5, combined with historical information
extracted from the Defense Manpower and Data Center (DMDC) databases. The source for service occupation
descriptions and primary/duty occupations is AFI 36-2101, Classifying Military Personnel (Officer and Enlisted). DMDC
is required to maintain historical data along with any new information that is submitted from the Services. Therefore,
occasionally a VMET may contain historically inaccurate data even though an individual's official military personnel
record is correct. If you are currently serving and detect an error on your VMET, we strongly encourage you to review
your official military personnel record to ensure it is correct. If your official military personnel record is inaccurate, you
are directed to pursue corrections through your servicing Military Personnel Section (MPS) as your military personnel
record is the critical record to be corrected, not the VMET database. If the local MPS is unable to update a course, you
should email a scanned copy of the certificate to the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) at dps.ota@randolph.af.mil. At
a minimum, you must ensure to include course code, course title, PDS code, graduation date, and your SSN. AFPC
must receive a valid course certificate as proof of course completion.
