In the aftermath, over 200,000 Hungarians fled the country as refugees, with 37,000 settling in Canada, including approximately 3,000 in Alberta. This year, organizations plan to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution through an academic conference and cultural festival exploring developments in Hungary and celebrating Hungarian culture in Canada.
