This document discusses a PhD project studying the estimation of time required to produce 1000 IU of vitamin D in the skin based on atmospheric UV levels. It provides background on skin function and vitamin D receptors, the vitamin D endocrine system, and graphs showing recordings of UV index levels from different locations in Australia along with exponential relationships between UV index and time required to synthesize 1000 IU of vitamin D.
