Keynote talk for EUROCALL 2017 (August 25, 2017) at the University of Southampton.
We live in a time of change that requires flexible and creative approaches to the socio-political mandates and constraints imposed upon our teaching and scholarship. While CALL provides us with technology-mediated solutions to some of the challenges that stem from recent political developments (e.g. subverting limitations to academic freedom imposed by national travel bans; see Oskoz & Smith, 2017), technology itself poses other challenges, including threats to personal dignity, privacy, individual agency, and democratic digital citizenship (European Data Protection Supervisor, 2015). In this talk I argue that we look to fandom for inspiration and motivation in responding to the socio-political challenges facing us in this time of change.
Susan Nalugwa Kiguli (PhD) is a Ugandan poet, literary scholar and critic whose fame is continuously growing from great to greater heights. She is currently a Senior Lecturer of Literature at Makerere University (with an observably strong passion and delight in teaching poetry), where she is the Head of Department.
According to Alex Smith, a literary critic and a poet, Susan N. Kiguli is the “the leading intellectually astute voice in contemporary East African poetry,” Her major areas of research and literary interest include creative writing, oral poetry and performance, and feminist assertion.
As Ireland gears up to vote on the marriage equality referendum on May 22nd, multi-award-winning Irish author Colm Tóibín will give a public lecture on same-sex relationships in literature on May 14th 2015.
The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr Paul Delaney (TCD), Dr Heather Ingman (TCD) and Dr Danielle Clarke (UCD), chaired by Prof Nicholas Grene (TCD). The event is organised by Dr Brendan O’Connell and Dr Pádraic Whyte from the School of English as part of the Trinity Long Room Hub’s ‘Behind the Headlines’ discussion series and supported by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Describe and demonstrate how social networks such as Facebook and Goodreads, and ICT tools like laptops and iPods can support and enhance Literature Circles.

This presentation is presented by Mahachulalongkorn International philosophy students 2016. I want to share this side to everyone to learn more about Mahayana and zen buddhism in Japan.
All forms of Buddhism celebrate various events in the life of the Buddha Gautama, including his birth, enlightenment, and passage into nirvana. In some countries, where the older and more conservative Theravada tradition predominates, the three events are observed on the same day, which is called Wesak. In regions adhering to the other major form of Buddhism, the Mahayana tradition, the festivals are held on different days and incorporate a variety of rituals and practices. The birth of the Buddha is celebrated in April or May, depending upon the lunar date, in these countries. In Japan, which does not use a lunar calendar, the Buddha’s birth is celebrated on April 8. The celebration there has merged with a native Shintō ceremony into the flower festival known as Hanamatsuri.
